I know James produced several records with Iggy but what of his other production jobs? I do remember back in the late 70s he produced at least one single (it may have been 2 or 3) by some local L.A. guy who went by the name Smokey or Smokie. I don't remember the records being very good but I also don't remember anything about them. Does anyone have these or know anything about them? What else did he produce?

I asked James about it.
He was just a friend to Smokey and he never produced or played guitar with them. He has actually not produced or played with another band after the New Values.

Well, not to argue with James (or you!), but I'm pretty sure that if you could find one of the 45s in question that he would, at least, be listed as producer. That said, it was a long time ago and my memory sure ain't what it used to be. It would have been before New Values and closer in time to Kill City.

Out of curiosity did you ask him recently or was it something that came up in the past.

Thanks for the help.

Can you ask him about songs I'm a man, I'm so glad, Ballad of hollis brown, Dynamite boogie, I'm Waiting for my man and Purple Haze (Unknown sessions 197? - Iggy with guitar player and drum machine)?
There are theories that he was not playing guitar on these recordings. If he does not play, maybe he knows who is "mysterious" guitar player.

Thanks.

Yes! I´ve already asked him about them. He answered that he not believe it was him on these tracks. But he don´t know who it can be either.

In the 70s I also remember reading that Williamson was producing an album or singles by "Smokey."

That's not to say it was true, but just to confirm that it was mentioned somewhere, maybe Bomp magazine?

Who was Smokey? Anyone remember?
