Iggy Pop and the Stooges cancel show at B’Estfest

Iggy Pop and the Stooges announced that they will cancel their concerts scheduled during this year’s tour, including the concert to be performed at B’Estfest on July 3, due to the decease of the guitarist Ron Asheton. The guitarist died at the beginning of this year, and his lifeless body was discovered by the police on January 6, in his apartment in Ann Arbor. Ron Asheton was a founder of the band The Stooges, beside Iggy Pop, Dave Alexander and his brother Scott Asheton.

“The decision of the band is a natural one after this unfortunate event, and we are sure that the Romanian fans will understand their decision. Our thoughts and regrets, beside those of the fans, will go to the artist’s family and the friends in these moments of suffering,” the Executive Manager of E-magic, Laura Coroianu declared, adding that the details on the new attendants to the festival will be published during the following few weeks.

"Unfortunately, Iggy and the Stooges will be canceling this year tour due to the sad news of Ron Asheton`s death. In the summer of 2009, Iggy & The Stooges were to play at B`ESTFEST`s 3rd edition, in Bucharest."

Sounds like they have no plans to replace Ron at least for the next 6 or 7 months. Maybe this is the end for the Stooges after all.

Ooops sorry, did not see that message and posted almost the same one on another page of the forum... It will be the first time in 13 years I won't see Igg this summer :-(

It's really sad indeed. We always combined our trip to Paris with a Stooges concert

thought they'd cancel

i was worried in case, because of contractual obligations, they'd throw something together for it but good to see they cancelled

well, its not great, could be the end of the stooges, i think it is

No we didn't, Scott and Iggy could have played this gig and called it a Stooges one, they did the right thing and chose not to.
