That's Dennis Thompson in the black shirt. Tyner & Kramer to the right. Thompson had some shitty things to say about Iggy in the extras to 'MC5: A True Testimonial'. I think he's sick of being asked about the Stooges all the time.
Dennis does seem to hold more anger than the rest of the 5, I think he felt they could have been so much more but got dragged into the political bullshit of the time by John Sinclair.

Seems like some of the MC5 weren't too appreciative of the Stooges' musicianship at the time either.

Apparently the MC5 liked Iggy and Scott but didn't really care about Ron and Dave. To be fair the MC5 were never as creative as The Stooges, they were always just a good, standard rock band.

are you certain about this ? especialy when you consider that both mike davis and dennis thompson were in bands with ron. also wayne kramer remained friends with ron ( see obituary written by wayne in classic rock magazine) and colaberated with him on the beyond cyberpunk project.

Ron quote:
"But, as even Dennis Thompson will tell you, Kramer and Smith used to think Dave Alexander and myself were lousy players. They liked Iggy and they thought my brother wasn't bad but behind our backs, they used to put us down."

yes, that's the quote I was thinking of. I don't know where I read that Rob Tyner really did recognise the importance of The Stooges from the first, however.
thanks for those two pics moncho!

Found this in a Dennis Thompson interview : Rob thought they were very, very cartoonish and liked them. He said they definitely had a future.

Nice shots! Not very often that you see shots of Ron that are of that clarity.
