Maybe i'm completely naive but I think there is a certain sophistication in the simplicity of the Stooges music. I've heard their sound refered to as "bone-head" rock but there is nothing bone-headed about I wanna be Your Dog or No Fun, I'm sure i don't have to remind anyone here of how much power is packed into those simplisitc riffs, which many bands of greeater fame could not hope to achieve. As for the lyrics the same less is more mantra follows, it may not be Simon and Garfunkel or Bob Dylan but Iggy could be poetic and brutal all in one breath which is a true gift.

Don't get me wrong-I love the Stooges' first album. It's a masterpiece in its own way, and I think the term "bone headed rock" is way off. That's best left to The Ramones. But this reviewer does exaggerate a bit, as though it was another Dylan album. He could have put a positive spin on it in other ways. I do agree in general with you though.

I'm sorry but there's no way I'd call the Stooges 'sophisticated pop'. I'm sure back in 1969 alot of people weren't sure what to call it.

The Stooges were and are simply loud and raw rock & roll. Just like I like it.

'punk' is a very limiting label, in the Stooges' case, but I think they're always going to be tagged with it, more than with any other. 'Rock 'n' roll' is a broader, more inclusive term of course but I don't much like using it either in relation to the Stooges, for some reason!!
I just like calling them MUSIC

Yup. And somehow The Stooges are the MOST musical band I ever came across. To quote Holden Caulfield: 'I'm not sure exactly what I mean by that, but I mean it.'

All I know is The Stooges' music gets down into my heart and soul more than anyone else. That's enough for me.

A bunch of pages back I posted this image. It was labeled as Cyrinda Foxe and James Williamson, and it raised several questions as to whether or not it really was James or not. Well, it's not. It is some guy named Anthony Rini. This was photographed by Leee Black Childers in 1971. Sorry for the misinformation.
