Steve Jones talks about joining the Stooges again ?

I think it's just a passing thought. I wouldn't put much stock in it.

He doesn't appear to say anything new about it in this interview. This seems to be a reference to what he said before in Metro Times.

British punk icon STEVE JONES has offered his services to IGGY POP as the LUST FOR LIFE hitmaker contemplates life after the death of THE STOOGES guitarist RON ASHETON. Asheton, 60, reportedly died from a heart attack on 6 January (09) - just months after reconciling with Pop for a Stooges comeback.
But Jones is keen to keep the band's plans on track after quitting his job as a Los Angeles DJ.
He tells the Los Angeles Times that he and Pop have been talking about Jones becoming an honorary member of The Stooges for upcoming tour dates.

and is it not kinda disrespectful, a couple weeks after his death and the death of the stooges ostensibly to say ''...you know i dont mind playing with you guys"

just seems disrespectful, and hence i dont think its true, this all came from a remark made ages ago i think, so not much to go on, and the official statement says nothing happening, with steve, or at all, so im takin it as that, plus im not even sure i'd go to see them with steve, i'd go obviously, cause its stooges but i dunno, i wouldnt have the same mindblown excitement before it or during it....or after it

a solo iggy i could get on board with, still would be weird seeing him without Ron beside him, and that sound, i dunno, still need time to process the whole thing, as ive said in another thread, i still think of them as being 'off tour' or writing the new album or something, my brain cant take it in yet, its strange

I agree with all the above.
Yeah, some new Iggy would be cool. At the same time, the best drummer he could pick has been working with him steadily since 2003. You don't have to call it The Stooges. But I think Scott earned his place with Iggy and then some. I'd hate to see him left out in the cold.

My guess is that they'll take their time, regroup and make a decision later. That's what Zep did when Bonham died.

Jones would be very nice. But I hope that they seattle some kind of "Ron Asheton tribute" to it.

If I'm to be honest, I don't think Scott, Steve M, Mike Watt and Iggy want to quit playing just because Ron died.
Stop doing what they do is not a fine way of celebrating the memory of the dead one. Having Jones on the team would be a fine merge of Pistols and the Stooges. A kind of a "Sonic Rendevouz band" thing in celibration of those dead.

Frankly whatever happens I'd like to see a less restricted setlist. He did some great stuff solo that I have missed.

I feel the same. We have been seeing the stooges as much as we clould, even traveled to England and France for shows, but the setlist was very predictable. Last year I more than once said that I wanted to see Iggy solo again some time
