PostSubject: 1979 gig - many Stooges numbers   1979 gig - many Stooges numbers Icon_minitimeSat Feb 21, 2009 3:50 pm

First off I've posted this in this section as I guess it's the right one?

A post I started off on gigs has disappeared...if it was pulled I've checked the rules not sure there's any I'm breaking? Torrent sites like dime host gigs that strictly have not been officially released and the people who seed them (not me, just downloaded them, and on liking them, want to direct Iggy fans to more of his great music!) don't profit from it.

Dime also *very quickly* remove any officially released music.

This gig has quite a rough guitar sound...having enjoyed some, erm, I guess more sophisticated sounding (for lack of a better word) gigs from 1979 like the late November gigs at LA and SF, this gig took me quite a few numbers for me to start to appreciate it.

There are several Stooges numbers, as you will see...and at this moment, listening to Batman, good stuff! Smile

Description Artist: Iggy Pop
Venue: Barbarellas, Birmingham, UK
Date: May 4th 1979
Source: Audience

Lineage: Cassette (Unknown Gen)>Philips CDR600>CDR>Audacity Speed Corrected>TLH>Flac8>You

Excellent audience recording from the start of the New Values tour. I got the original cassette back in '82 or '83.
Unlike the Hartford show this runs at the correct speed :-)
All trackmarking was done on the Philips CDR unit, not the PC, but all of it seems to be pretty accurate.
This was a great little tour, by the time the US tour started at the end of '79 the band had changed (as had the attitude)
and those shows have a completely different feel.
This is a tight band and the setlist has a generous sprinkling of Stooges material amongst the New Values songs.
I'm pretty sure this won't have been on Dime before, but if it has, for those who don't have it, enjoy...

Running Time: 59-36

1.Intro (La Resa Dei Conti "60 Seconds To Nothing")...
2.Kill City
3.Fortune Teller...
4....New Values
5.Billy Is A Runaway
6.Endless Sea
7.Cock In My Pocket
8.1970
9.Sister Midnight
10.Down On The Street
11.Girls
12.Loose
13.Dirt
14.Batman
15.Louie Louie
16.I Wanna Be Your Dog
17.Shake Appeal
18.I'm Bored

Iggy Pop - Vocals
Jackie Clark - Guitar
Scott Thurston - Guitar/Keyboards/Vocals
Glen Matlock - Bass/Vocals
Klaus Kruger - Drums

Hi there

yes I've found that now, thanks.

I guess I'm almost on 10 posts now, so fingers crossed...still find it's weird it's hidden...neither Iggy or the record companies he's dealt with have ever appeared anti Iggy bootlegs to me...I believe the more (open) sharing the better.

Still rules are rules.

the link works for me...I guess you may not be a member of Dime?

if that's the case it's a good time to join - it being the weekend that is.

It is free, so no worries there....as they're so popular you have to try joining at 10 minute intervals if you can't get in at first.

Try about a half minute before the hour, ten past the hour or whatever 10 minute denomination closest to the time you read this message / when you are ready to try joining.

I got in at seconds before 6.10pm on a saturday here in the uk...anyway keep trying and good luck.

This is one of my favourites among my collection of bootlegs. The band sounded very funky that night especially on Sister Midnight.
