| Just another collection of the same 1972, 1973 and weird Iggy demos I think. There's SO many of them. | |

| Did you listen to any of the clips? They are short but if you listen to Head On or Open Up and Bleed the drums sound better than I can remember them sounding on other releases. Is it just me? Can anyone verify what my ears seem to be telling me? I haven't done an A/B test but these seem to sound different than the Easy Action Heavy Liquid box. Anyone care to check out those clips and chime in? | |

| Larry: I listened to it on Spotify and several songs do have both improved drums and guitar. Almost sounds like if they'v done overdubbing. Rubber legs sounds for example really clear.
Can't compare to Heavy L right now, but what I can remember is that this sounds alot better. Anyone who can, please fill in.

| Presume they must have licensed some of it from Easy Action as Money and Louie Louie haven't been released elsewhere. | |

| MC: Could be. I think they'v overdubbed some of the music, Head on for example sounds like if the drums was put on top of it. | |

| had a quick listen and Johanna and Born in a Trailer definitely sound slightly different to versions I've heard before. Cleaner drums? | |

| Yeah, sounds like the same old stuff, w/ over-dubbed drums & possibly rhythm guitar.
I'm pretty sure Scotty had already nodded-out at that point in 'Born in a Trailer' and the drumming in the sample is a complete overdub. This is heresy on par w/ the Manzarek-esque keyboards on the Funhouse box single.

| trailerborn: Seriously, some of the overdubb is quite well done. The drums and guitar do blend in quite well in some of the songs, esp Open up and bleed. They'v stuck to the basic drumming sound and the guitarsound sounds like if it was picked up from the demo. Sounds just the right amount of puffed up without straying away from the originals power of raw. And some stuff is just cleaned up versions, like Scene of crime.
I'm actually thinking of getting my hands on this one.

| Don't get me wrong, Ill be picking this up too, but the original versions are hard-wired in my head at this point and the overdubs will take some getting used to. I just hope the new drums don't overpower Iggy's monkey-yelps at the end of BIAT too much. But I also didn't care for the Raw Power re-mix and am a firm believer in the power of tape-hiss, so what do I know? | |

I believe it was recorded at roughly the same time as "I Got A Right", "Gimme Some Skin", "I'm Sick Of You" and "Scene Of The Crime".

Is that the same as the one on Heavy Liquid disc 1 which was recorded at Olympic Studios in July 1972 (according to my ipod)?

| This is really weird.
I must admit that at first I couldn't believe some of the above posts. Would a reissue of this same old stuff (again!!!) really have overdubs added? All the tracks are available on the Heavy Liquid set, in the same old questioanble quality that we've been used to for years. The first few samples I heard sounded just like the same tracks I've heard millions of times, but then... WTF!!!
Where the hell did those drums come from on "Head On" and "Born In A Trailer"? I've just gone back and listened again to the samples and quite definitely these two have been tampered with. I barely recognised "Trailer". Not sure about some of the others - "Open Up And Bleed" sounds pretty much like it always did though perhaps a little cleaner. It's hard to tell from some of the other samples without a direct comparison which I've not had time to do. Maybe later.
But why would anyone add stuff to old Stooges demos, for some cheapo reissue of stuff we've all got already? And who did it? It's interesting that the added drums on the short samples don't sound that different from what Scott could do. Did he overdub drums? I still can't figure out why anyone would do this though.
Anyone know anything for sure?
Cheers,
Richard | |
