Was listening to the song earlier tonight but haven't seen the movie for ages...

Repo Man

I was riding on a concrete slab,
Down a river of useless flab.
It was such a beautiful day.
I heard a witchdoctor say,
"I'll turn you into a toadstool"

I'm looking for the joke with a microscope.

My muscle's twitching on your words.
If you're on the streets you lose your nerves.
Divinity throws you a curve.
Sticks you and then you go beserk.
Abhoaring no inspiration.

I'm looking for the joke with a microscope.

Page out of a comic book.
A chicken hanging on a hook.
A river and a babbling brook.
A sermon and a teenage hook.
Shaking my hand at your fake face.
A suicide a certain look.

A microphone a loose guitar.
People feeling near and far.
Stupidity a mental scar.
Put cruel into cruelty.
As life goes by you in a blurr.

An achoholic has gone far.
Everything just goes to far.

I was pissing on the desert sands,
When the desert whispered to me,
"Damn! Isn't this a shame?
Things will never be the same..."
I run this gas and oasis.

Now I'm looking for the joke with a microscope.

I was a teenage dinosaur; Stoned and Obsolete.
I didn't get fucked and I didn't get kissed.
I got so fucking dense.
Using my head for an ashtray.

Now I'll tell you who I am.
I'm the Repo-Man.

And I'm looking for the joke.
Looking for the joke.
I'm Looking for the joke with a microscope.................

-From the "Repo-Man" soundtrack (c) 1984

That's a great song isn't it?
I wish Iggy had done more stuff in this vein. Repo Man and the Ric Ocasek demos the previous year have a massive relentless feel to them that really suits Iggy's style.
It would be great if some enterprising soul could put together an album of a bunch of Iggy rarities although I'm sure the licensing issues would be awful.
Anyway, I'm off to play Repo Man!
Cheers,
Richard

Yep, that's me.
Trying to persuade the publishers to go for an updated edition at the moment... I think it would be worth doing at the end of this year, after all the touring etc.
Cheers,
Richard

What sort of rarities? There was that Nuggets double CD a while back that hoovered up a bunch of live covers and unreleased demos, largely from a couple of Skydog compilations. I liked that. It was interesting to hear the stuff on the Arista reissues too but they must have loads more they didn't put out.

nuggets was released with out a problem because skydog is a sub-division of jungle records.

i'm all for rarities + demos. one that i will still enjoy is 'when dreaming fails', it sounds so damn good, even for a session take with a few drop-outs on it.

I love Repo Man too, it popped up on my iPod's random play setting last week when I was driving thru the ENglish countryside, and I remembered again how good it was.

I gaveit lots of props in my book - espeiclaly because it was one of the best things he recorded with Steve Jones. I personally hate Instinct, it's so dull and processed... if the whole album had been as lively as Repo Man, it would have been amazing.

AFAIK, Repo Man was also pretty much the last time Iggy took cocaine. He'd goen clean, but relapsed for this session. For once, it did some good...

As far as I can remember Alvin Gibbs mentions in his 1988/89 tour diary that Iggy had one lapse during that tour too.
Still, pretty good going considering how much Iggy used to hoover up!
Cheers,
Richard
