I'll save you the trouble, it will have faint crackling in the background. This will make you think it sounds different than the cd, when in fact both are the exact same. But don't tell the people who spend three times the price for a digital recording on vinyl.

Erm, I meant the vinyl has more brilliance, warmth, dynamics and overall depth, it's a must have.

Well, if it is a brand new, properly pressed album and you have a real turntable there shouldn't be any "crackling." As for the ambient differences between vinyl and cd, there are many articles out there on this subject. Here is a valid description of the differences from a pretty good article about vinyl:

...a gentleman who owned a record store in Wisconsin. "He said that a CD was like walking into a room with a high-watt, bare light bulb illuminating every nook and cranny in the room. An LP was like walking into the same room, but with soft indirect lighting that bathed you in the warmth of its glow."

http://classicrock.about.com/od/newreleases/a/vinyl_one_3.htm

As for the price, $24.76 isn't an overly absorbent price for a double LP. If it is a gate fold cover and Easy Action includes a full size version of the box set booklet I think it would be well worth the that price.

Pressing onto vinyl from a digital master can't replace signal information absent from the digital master. Analogue all the way or no way.

Now we are into recording and mastering. EA are limited by the source material on that matter. But for that matter, with most modern vinyl releases the music on that vinyl has in all likelihood entered the digital realm at some point in the process. Unless you are buying vinyl produced before about 1995, there has probably been some digitizing involved.

Not quite PT,

It could be that the "natural" interpolation of the digital waveform caused by the inertia of the needle-system sound different (I dont claim better) than the electronic interpolation by those filters.

And apart from that the signal is enhanced by -distortion- ..

Well, as long as you like what you hear and have fun with the music- anythin goes !

OUTBURST: I bow to your clearly greater knowledge on the subject! And I love the idea of "enhanced by distortion"!, that's a code to live by.

EIRoi: 80% of music I listen to was recorded analogue, as it was recorded/pressed pre-eighties digital boom, so I tend to think of things in those terms. For more modern vinyl issues of things you're right, it's almost certain they've been digitized somewhere along the line.

Final word to OUTBURST "as long as you like what you hear and have fun with the music- anythin goes !"

Some people still record their stuff analog using 2" reel to reel tape. Unfortunately, it is almost always mixed and mastered digitally. So you start out with the "warmth" of analog, but it is quickly down graded in the mixing/mastering process.

Well in the case of these tapes I'm pretty sure that no one in their right mind would want to miss the advantages of digital noise reduction and signal restauration.
As for recording analogue and mixing digital, it's a great benefit to be able to record with tape saturation and good a-d converters these days are doing a pretty good job in saving "the warmth of analogue", at least in the 192 or 96 kHz and 24 or 32 bit resolution. It is possible to combine the best of both worlds these days.

I get the impression the Easy Action folks aren't a big fan of Scott Thurston's piano work during the Raw Power era. "and Jools Thurston nowhere in sight!!!" There was something to that effect on the promo site for the 71 box set as well...just seems funny how they seem to go out of their way to mention Thurston's absence

I agree with Sweet Sixteen... this comment "and Jools Thurston nowhere in sight!!!" isn't necessary.

i think it was just a joke cause some people didnt like the fuller piano sound and liked the tight guitar focused sound of the original and 1971 bands

Although I think the piano work goes well in the 1973-74 stuff calling him "Jools Thurston" made me laugh. And as much as I love vinyl I won't be buying this because 1 - it's a bit of a cash-in after the boxset, and 2 - I have no money.
