| I was just thinking about the beatles boxset, and other boxsets that have appeared, like zeppelin or the stones one (which is an odd one as you sort of build the box as you go along, four albums at a time i think)
I realise boxsets are usually done for bands that arent creating anymore due to deaths or whatever else, but some of Iggys albums (zombie / instinct) arent easy to get a hold of at least for decent prices, on their own
I was also reading recently the reissue of exile on main st this april, theres rumour of it being a big 4 disc thing like the recently released get your ya yas out collection and a number of not only unreleased songs but completely unknown (by collectors) songs are said to be on it, why don't they do re-issues of some of iggys albums? like a 2 disc set of different takes or whatever else, demos etc
Just wondering if there is anything in the 'vaults' that Iggy hasnt released or if we can ever expect reissues or expanded editions to lust for life or idiot or the more well known albums

| There's not all that much out there, and the fact he's been on different labels every 2-3 albums means no label really has enough prime material. | |

| I think that's part of the problem - the licencing issues from all those labels would be a nightmare to get around - and really, does Iggy have enough of a following to make it worth the cost of doing this? I know we all all love this stuff, but let's face it, Iggy's albums haven't really sold as much as the Beatles or the Stones or Zep! So any record label, which would be looking firmly at the bottom line when it comes to any release these days, would almost certainly pass on the option of a big retrospective.
What we urgently need is a proper reissue, remaster of The Idiot and Lust For Life. Any out-takes from that period would be amazing too.
Cheers,

| I think tthe fact that "Instinct" is so hard to get a hold of is a legal thing. Since listening to it is a form of abuse and violates the human rights act. | |

| Thanks for all the comments, that does clear it up, i would imagine there isnt a lot of extra material (iggy doesnt strike me as a lennon/mccartney-write-250-songs-for-one-album kinda artist lol)
and i would imagine the legal issues (aside from G's theory about Instinct...lol) would be impossible to get around for a small amount of money, and you'd probably never see a return
thanks again for responding
on a side note, i actually like Instinct - for what it is - unfortunately you have to do that with some artists work you have to look at it from a different angle, and again unfortunately iggys made/been made to make a lot of compromises artistically, plus he's stated it himself, he's just not that good lol he can be great but i think he needs to get out of his own way (example; Preliminaries)

HJW I hope they would reissue Lust For Life and Idiot ...I heard there's some demos with Bowie that's never been released. - There' s few albums where they recorded lot of Outtakes...In Skull Ring sessions Iggy recorded lot of songs with The Trolls that never made on the record. It would be great to have 2 CD reissue of Skull Rings with all the previously unreleased songs.

| Richard's right, there wouldn't be a huge market for a retrospective. Especially one including, for example, Instinct outtakes. But money could be made out of proper Idiot and Lust For Life reissues. Why Virgin haven't already done this is a mystery. | |

thats interesting, of all the stuff, stooges included, on the skull ring album, i liked the stuff with the trolls the best, they had a great sound on that album and i'd love if they did a proper remaster with additional unreleased material or outtakes for idiot or Lust for life, two of my favouirte iggy albums - Quote :

This brings up another things, how many albums has iggy sold in his whole career with and without the stooges, and how many records did idiot and lust for life ship? i remember reading iggy was almost in the charts with lust for life but the death of Elvis kept him off (or maybe its just an excuse...) And another point, does anyone else have a million in prizes, the anthology released a couple years ago, the idiot songs and lust for life songs that are on there sound VASTLY improved over the CDs i bought which must be like 15 years old - Quote :

thats true, they're more of a live retrospective, but i was thinking about this and although the output 'creatively' wasnt the best during the 80s, the second volume of WTFS shows he was probably better during this period than the previous box, as if he had to try harder to sell it to the audience or something - and i think thats the point of WTFS, of course you could do an album anthology with tracks from all the albums or even a huge boxset of all the albums nad outtakes but it wouldnt exactly be marketable not even as a niche thing like the funhouse sessions, but i think a live retrospective makes alot more sense, cause iggy couldve been playing anything and he'd still have made it a good show, so i think in answer to my own question WTFS is a perfect 'anthology' or 'retrospective' of Iggys career still would love a huge, lavish box set of all his material and unreleased tracks HJW
