I have a US commercial copy of this July 1970 45
WITHOUT the added organ on Down On The Street:

My July 1970 copy of DOWN ON THE STREET (the Mono Single Version WITHOUT Organ) 3:10, Elektra Single EKM-45695, has in the Wax: EKM 45695 - A (Scratched-out B, Scratched-out A) - SP (With Super-imposed Scratched-out A), (Mark Possibly E /), (Mastering date) 7-8-70 BM [Half Specialty Pressing Mark: Backwards Big S With Small R Inside Top Loop]

WHERE was the version of Down On The Street WITH ADDED ORGAN originally released?
On DJ 45 only?
And / or on some commercial copies too? Please describe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can tell it was never released. I own the white label DJ copy (a picture of which you can see as my avatar) and it has no organ on it. It seems to have been scheduled at some time as the single from the Funhouse LP but was never released until it showed up in the Complete Funhouse Box.

My 2 stock copies are the same as beto´s. So it´s a bit strange.

heard it was a version rejected by the band and they were right because it sounds silly

It sounds like The Stooges meet The Doors.

I have a stock copy and a mono/stereo promo (and a French stock copy w/picture sleeve), none of them have the organ, I think the organ version is something they found in the vault, probably done by someone who thought they could sell records by making them sound more like the Doors.

I read somewhere that Don Gallucci might've played the organ bits himself.

I thought my DJ copy had the organ, now im going to have to dig it out and see.

Richard Adams, in his book The Complete Iggy Pop (2006), also mentioned the organ overdubs in the single Elektra 45695 (US)...
