A new convention aims to bring together 300 fans to focus on the modern music industry. Formed by Un-Convention and iconic trainer firm Converse, the new event takes place in Manchester on May 8th.
The Un-Convention Factory is a special one day event which will allow fans to take part in a special project teaming them up with top figures in independent music. Taking fans through the process of planning, recording, designing, marketing and distribution they will form a record label for one day only.
The product? An all star cover version of Iggy Pop's 'The Idiot'. Released in 1977 the famously downbeat album still ranks as one of the finest ever released by the punk pioneer.
Produced by David Bowie, the album is now set to be given a track by track makeover. Taking part in the recording process are Manchester dance rock dons The Whip, alongside a host of other acts.
Reverend Soundsystem are due to take part, while I Am Kloot are also due to tackle a track from the album. Heading up the record label side are some of the most influential people in the British music industry.
New Order bass player Peter Hook knows a thing or two about groundbreaking labels, with the Factory mainstay giving his advice at the Un-Convention Factory. Also taking part are the likes of John Robb, Don Letts and 808 State producer Andrew Massey.
With extra panels and open discussions taking place throughout the day, many more acts are set to be unveiled over the next few weeks.
