1970 = Catch Me If You Can Empty
PostSubject: 1970 = Catch Me If You Can   1970 = Catch Me If You Can Icon_minitimeThu Apr 01, 2010 3:55 am

I just thought you folks would find this interesting if you didn't know it already. I was listening to Catch Me If You Can by Chuck Berry when I heard this verse...

Flyin' with my baby last Saturday night
Wasn't a gray cloud floatin' in sight
Big full moon shinin' up above
Cuddle up honey be my love

Kinda sounds like...

Outta my mind on a Saturday night
1970 rollin' in sight
Radio burnin' up above
Beautiful baby, be my love

Iggy literally took the last words of each line and rewrote the beginning parts. Talent borrows, genius steals I guess.

Well spotted! I think the song is You Can't Catch Me.

Frederick Goudy the famous type designer was also a big fan of the early Stooges. He too noticed this similarity to Berry in the 1970 lyric. It inspired him to write his best one liner – "The old guys stole all of our best ideas!"

You Can't Catch Me, ya, subliminal typo I think...Also in the same song is a lyric the Beatles stole for their song Come Together - "Here come a flat-top, he was movin' up with me" turns into "Here come old flat-top, he comes groovin' up slowly". Must be a great song to be taken from twice by such amazing bands.
