| Good, though I'm really not thrilled by the idea of a low cost amateur camera work. Well, at least we will get to listen to a 2010 live show from a better source than mp3.
Does anyone know what was the actual setlist ? I think I Need Somebody wasn't played in the late shows of the year (too fuckin' bad), was at least Johanna in this particulier gig ?

Well, the cameras (in High Definition!), have apparently been operated by fans, but that does not necessarily mean "amateur camera work". The fan camera operators were chosen based on the cinematographic works they submitted to the MVD Entertainment Group panel. So I guess they were selected based on their technical abilities and creativity. A fresh, very Stooges-like approach, I think.

| Thanks Shakes. So, I Need Somebody, but no Johanna... That'll have to do.
Luzern, regarding camera work, it's a job, so, that necessarily means "amateur work" in this case - even if it ends up being good amateur work. A good surprise is always possible, but filming a live show is a very complex thing, involving a good communication with a director, and the abbillity to choose what to film (knowing what the other operators will do). 90% of the live dvds arn't worth shit, and I don't think a "fan", someone who by definition will be more interested in the show than in camera work and have no education whatsoever on what's important in the frame, has a good chance of doing more than, at best, a "fair" work. But I hope I'm wrong ! Fingers crossed. To this day, The Stooges have been plagued with two baddly directed dvd (one with close to no effects and direction efforts, the other with so much visual effects and abusive edditing that it's barely enjoyable), that might be the last chance for a good rendition of one of their shows.

Yeah, you're right. But "Escaped Maniacs" has good interviews (Ron!) and I love the bootleggy feel of "Live In Detroit".

| I for one am sick to death of all those professionally filmed festivals with the sweeping zooms over the ecstatic crowds doing the wave and incessant panning pullbacks to show the we are one-ness solidarity of the throngs. Bleccch. They all look alike no matter who the act is. I applaud the deliberate DIY approach here, and know that most of the chosen few (!) cinematographers for this Stooge gig are former film students, several with their own ongoing cable/online shows. If anyone else here has seen the student films of now famous directors, you'll know that the only real difference betwixt them is budget. The ideas and ability are always already there. For instance, Lucas' THX 113 USC thesis film and the eventual theatrical production film of same were both shot in the same bleak underground corridors. | |

The Stooges 2007 Glastonbury Festival set on DVD!
Did anyone know about this?

Cant believe I'm only finding out about this. Sum of this performance was televised at the time but i never realised it had now been released on DVD.
And a total bargain for 10 quid. It will be mine
it seems like it's just a bootleg of the tv broadcast that was shared at dime and other torrent sites. a dvd of the stooges with a skull ring promotional photo doesn't look official to me.

| Yeah thats a good point about the Skull Rings shot. I noticed that. Figured it was just lazy design work. See it quite often with wrong era line-up photos on stuff. It's annoying but something I've learned to accept!
Oh well, it'll be a good thing to have anyway. Haven't watched it since then and it'll be cool to see Ron doin his stuff again.

| I was the one to film Iggy at the ATP fest, the front and center camera, just to let you know,I get some great footage,VERY upclose and personal. You wont be dissapointed with the DVD.I have 85% of the interview recorded of our interview with the stooges and it has some funny and informative info, and my footage from the show I have in hand also. The other's footage is very good as all cameras were high def,1 on the stage with tripod,2 in the rear with tripods and 3 in the crowd with handhelds. So its a complete panarama of the show from 6 vantage points. | |

Cool! Thanks for the information. Looks like it's going to be a great film! Were you actually IN THE CROWD or front and center in the pit in front of the stage (if there was a pit)?

| gotta admit, the pics from the cover of the ATP record, and the ones above do suggest this is very well filmed indeed, looking forward to it! One day they should put the full Cincinatti clips on an official DVD...the bit on the Jesus This was Iggy DVD was edited. Surely with all the clout Iggy has now and the amount he's being embraced by "the industry" means that should be possibly by now? Sorry if that's off topic here, but it would also be another good way of honouring Ron too. I know the clips have 'circulated' a lot, and in damn good quality, but a non timecoded version should be put an official DVD, just to ram the point home. | |
