Radio Festival 2014, organised by The Radio Academy, and BBC Music have announced that Iggy Pop will be delivering the fourth annual John Peel Lecture at this year’s Radio Festival on Monday 13th October. Iggy, who hosts a Sunday afternoon show on BBC Radio 6 Music, will deliver a speech about free music in a capitalist society. Radio Festival 2014 takes place at The Lowry, MediaCityUK in Salford from 13th-15th October 2014 and is the premier event for UK radio.

Just heard this - fun to hear him speak as always but it was difficult to follow - and all a bit confusing. What was he on about? Did I miss something? Seemed like a mish-mash of observations without any central thesis and without any clear conclusion. The audience sounded nonplussed too. It was more interesting when Ms Laverne interviewed him at the end and he was responding to specific questions. Too bad the boys in the band weren't name-checked.

I was there (may see me in front row on Sunday TV bbc4 at 8pm!) and Iggy was pretty on form, talking about how buying or stealing music has evolved.  He stayed on stage for a couple of minutes and then spent the rest of the lecture right in front of the audience on the floor. I found him pretty aticulate and humourous.

Afterwards, met him at stage door and he was very friendy and chatted to me and my friend, despite having autograph hunters thrusting stuff at him.

Great you got to meet the Ig, Jacqui. Always read he's very gracious meeting fans, good to hear another account. Hope some day to add my own story.

i thought the lecture was really good, i got the feeling iggy was speaking quite directly at young artists and maybe specifically himself as a younger man having learnt from the mistakes, i think thats why it may have appeared to be disjointed, it wasnt really a lecture at all, it was just a conversation and some advise

Interesting to see it on TV, works better there than on the radio - his informal attitude and roaming about suits the lack of structure and direction of the lecture, like he's deliberately underselling himself and undermining the formality of the occasion.  Fun, for sure, but I was hoping for a provocative thesis cogently argued (what an opportunity!) and in that sense it was disappointing.
