Hi everyone, i have recently procured the glorious 1970 boxset, cant believe i have it in my hands, anyway, i was surprised to see the CDs were in proper CD cases, i'd heard it was jewel line or watever they call it, the card board ones, thought it was those, also, is there a different printing of the box, becuase wen i started liking the stooges i saw this in HMV and picked it up looked at the back which had a tracklisting not unlike heavy liquids, saw the 30 takes of loose and thought not for me yet, little did i know its impossible to find, but i was wondering if there is a smaller, thinner at least boxset made, anyone?

There was only the one set as far as I'm aware. Limited to 3,000 copies - mine is 756.
Well done for finding one, as it is getting pretty rare these days.
Cheers,
Richard

Yeh thats wat i thought, but wen i received it, in the post, i held it and it was bigger than my memory of it, also i did see the entire tracklisting on the back, hence me not buying it the first time, when i saw it in the shop, HMV, i dunno, maybe it was some leaf thing over it showing the contents, u'no, i just thought there was somethin odd about it, and i'd heard it was in those card sleeves like the old Metallic 2XKO came in u'no, i dunno, just checking, looks great tho

No, yours sounds correct. Some box sets are retailed with shrinkwrap plastic with a sticker containing more details, like track listing, so maybe that's what you saw.

THE STOOGES
1970: The Complete Funhouse Sessions

This title is no longer available from Rhino Handmade.

However, numbered copies from the original edition may be available at select retailers.

An individually numbered, limited edition of 3000 copies from Rhino Handmade.

Over several days during the month of May 1970, The Stooges went into Elektra Sounds Recorders in Los Angeles to cut what would be their second, and ultimately final, album for the label. The idea was to capture, as close as possible, the sound of a Stooges concert on vinyl disc. To that end each track was recorded live in the studio again and again over many days; in the end, seven tracks were edited out of these session reels and rearranged and assembled to make up the original 1970 album.

Though a poor seller and almost universally panned upon initial release, Fun House has since been recognized as a true American classic. It is loud, breathtaking music without which much of the punk and hard rock that followed would be unimaginable.

What you have known for almost thirty years as a 36-minute long proto-punk masterpiece is now presented in its complete 7-hour and 52-minute recording session entirety – that’s more than seven hours of previously unreleased recordings from Iggy and company. Every take from every Fun House session, in order, exactly as The Stooges recorded them -- all the music, mayhem, false starts, inside jokes, and equipment hum.

Everything on this 7-CD set has been remastered from scratch from the original multi-tracks. And in addition to all the alternate takes of the Fun House tracks we've known and loved for decades, there are two previously unheard songs which never made it onto that original disc, as well as a remastered version of the original "Down On The Street" b/w "I Feel Alright (1970)" single. Of the 142-tracks (109 are music and 33 are studio dialogue), all but nine are previously unreleased.

Six compact discs are packaged in standard jewel cases each with an 8-page folder; the seventh is packaged in a die-cut cardboard sleeve as a replica of the original Elektra single. There is also a 9.5-inch by 19-inch poster which features the original unretouched band photographs from both the front and back album cover. And, to explain it all, there is an essay from journalist Ben Edmonds which puts all of these remarkable Stooges recordings into an understandable context.

If anyone fancies further reading, here's a snippet of interview with Fun House producer, Don Gallucci (who came to fame playing keyboards on Louie Louie)...

My copy (825/3000) doesn't have any text on the box, it doesn't look like either of the pictures above. I didn't know it had been made available in shops. Does the shop one have a number?

Kudos to all of you, as I found the box to be a bit too overwhelming. Once I got through it I came to the conclusion that the record was plenty enough for me. Laughing

However, it did make me appreciate how much energy they put into it and how the final product sounds like it was done in one take. Crazy.

I haven't listened to my Funhouse box in a while but this isn't true is it?

From the HoundBlog:

Quote :
It's fun to hear all the outtakes and variations, but they knew when they had nailed a tune. Oddly enough, on the box you never get to hear the final versions that were on the LP with Ron's rhythm guitar overdubs.
