Damn, don't we all. It's a real shame no one had the foresight to document any of this.

| Who says ? I say there are several rolls of super 8 out there, only the old hippies who now have become yuppies have sat on it for years, and probably trew them away years ago. | |

| Entirely possible. There's probably legendary footage rotting away somewhere in someone's basement, forgotten and not to be seen by humans for another 20 years...
I mean, the Stooges may not have been popular, but I know people went to shows just to look at the freak. It blows my mind that there's so little footage out there. :/

There's a long-standing rumor that the New Year's Eve show (1973) was recorded by Columbia for a live album. On the bill was a little known band (back then) called KISS and Blue Oyster Cult. Ron has been on the record that no such thing exists. I personally would have loved to have been at that show. Stooges, KISS, and BOC. You can't beat that with a stick.

| My favourite photos of Iggy have to be those taken by Mick Rock i.e. the one already posted of him bending over backwards and the one of him, Bowie and Reed. Have any of you heard of 'Punk Drunk Love'? It's a DVD slideshow of Rock's photography and it has LOADS of amazing photos of Iggy on it (also has Bowie, Jagger etc). I bought it a few weeks ago from panoramica.com and am really pleased with it - I put it on when I'm not actively watching the tv. My favourite photo, again! | |

I have that in a huge 24x36 poster. It's not on my wall thought because I don't want it to get ruined. I want to get it framed so I can put it on my wall. It's a great pic.

| It is a great pic...I don't know how the hell he can do that tho, my back would snap in two (sounding a bit old now)! I'd be curious to know more about Mick Rock's relationship with Iggy, whether they are good freiends or not, because he has taken so many pics of him over the years | |

I know he's said he's always been naturally very flexible.. but y'know he's also mentioned before that he was into all sort of things back then, like bellydancing and ballet and avant garde dance stuff.. which would've certainly helped make his back bendier than the average persons, even without his natural contortionist abilities.. I can actually bend my back pretty far (because of all the dance I did as a kid and all the yoga i do now) but with Iggy it just looks "natural", like he really didn't have to try very hard to do things like that. You heard him tell that story about how he used to be able to bend over backwards and pick up a dime with his teeth off the floor? THAT is a party piece. He's bendier (and braver) than people more than half his age now. Seen him lately when he hauls himself up onto the Marshall stacks and humps them? What other 60 year old do you know that could do that?! His body is like a gift from god.

| Yeah, I remmember him saying once in an interview that in the (I think) late 60's he was really into bellydance and like foreign tribal dance? and sometime in the 70's it was like avant garde dance stuff. Then I think later (late 70's? 80's? I don't know) he was into ballet.. even had his own ballet coach in New York.
Guess that could be where the cover of New Values came from..

| Hi there jneilnyc, That's two amazing Stooges gigs. It would be terrific if you could share your memories with those of us not lucky enough to have been there. How about it? Cheers, Richard | |

| It's funny, while the memories of those shows are vivid, they're also pretty diffuse -- you're not gonna get details on the level of "and then they played this song, and then Iggy did this thing", etc.
But I'll see what I can do.

| Concert listing for the Michigan Palace in Detroit. Note "Buchman Turner Overdrive"! Proof that the band didn't always get the respect they deserved, even at their peak, and even in their own hometown. This review appeared in a Detroit paper (probably the Free Press) following their 1973 show at Ford Auditorium. (note use of "punk" in 1973 -- at least they got that right!) Two flyers for one of the two shows that ended up on Metallic KO: | |
