| I have tickets to the Philly show and I was wondering if Watt's gonna be touring too. I know they just played SXSW together but they might just be a one-off thing. | |

| Apparently, if you check google news, some drunkyard critic says that Watt bass is "augmented with backing tape", as he did hear the bass still going while Watt had some amp trouble during the last gig as SXSW.
I say the critic was drunk, I saw the Stooges enough time close enough to see that they never use backing tapes unlike other acts. I even saw rehearsals. Could someone just fire this guy for spreading such blatant lies ?

| That was the music guy from the Austin newspaper. I went to the show. That guy's screwed. I saw Watt having the problems with his amp and you could definitely tell there was no bass at all for a minute or so. The Stooges freakin' rocked!! Can't wait to see the CA shows. | |

| Looks like the guy from the Austin paper is (sort of) retracting his Watt statement:
By Michael Corcoran | Sunday, March 25, 2007, 07:18 PM
Don’t call him Milli VanIggy.
During the Stooges SXSW set Saturday at Stubb’s, bassist Mike Watt’s amp blew up, and he appeared to stop playing as he talked to his tech. Meanwhile, the bass line to “Skull Rings” kept churning out of the speakers.
It sure seemed like the Stooges were using augmentation — maybe a tape loop — and my review said so.
But Stooges publicist Angelica Cob says that assessment was wrong.
“The Stooges have never used backing tracks and never will,” Cob says. “During ‘Skull Ring,’ the bass amp went out, but that didn’t affect the sound coming through the PA and the monitors.”
I saw what I saw — moments when both hands were off the bass — but who am I to dispute the greatest band to ever play SXSW?
Let me set the record straight: Stooges don’t fudge!

| IGGY WRITES LETTER TO AUSTIN NEWSPAPER REGARDING CORCORAN'S ARTICLE!!:

Michael Corcoran's review of the Stooges' show at Stubb's during South by Southwest suggested that the band played to taped augmentation. Not so, says Iggy Pop, above.
Loose with the facts, man
Re: March 19 concert review "Stooges let loose, put raw power on display." This rebuttal of Michael Corcoran's review is by a member of the Stooges:
Mike, dude, I would never, ever, ever play music to a freakin' tape. For real. This just never happened and never will happen.
What you probably heard is Ron Asheton's ability to play that riff picking a mid-range motif while also picking and sliding a bass line. This derives from blues players like Fred McDowell, for example. You definitely won't hear it on a Fall Out Boy record.
Have you ever heard a real guitar player? Playing live? That's how they do. You also heard Steve Mackay on sax backing Ron up. At the moment the bass went out, I, too, was amazed at how good it sounded without him.
I will happily slit my throat if you can find anyone backstage at that gig who saw us (fooling) around with a piece of (freakin') tape. We're the Stooges, and in my world tape is not alright. It's fat, rich and uncool.
Sorry about the guitar levels. This show was a freebie, so we left our sound man at home.
