| I've been listening to the Stooges' Funhouse on my iPod and got to thinking that it my be my favorite Side A of any record. 1 Down On The Street 2 Loose 3 T.V. Eye 4 Dirt Man, all those songs rock harder than some group's entire catalog! How about the rest of you? Any favorite Side A's? I may be talking to the older member's of the board here. I can explain what a Side A is if I need to. | |

| The most amazing thing to me about both of those side "A" s is the time that they came out. I have to a agree that they are both Badass though. | |

| It's not the greatest side A for sure, but in my opinion it's worth mentioning - first vynil side of 1971 live bootleg 1. I Got A Right 2. You Don't Want My Name 3. I Need You I know it's unusual, but I like it | |

| I'm too young to remember A-sides (I think...). Nothing else measures up to anything on The Stooges' debut album, tho. Not even 'Funhouse' (sacrilegious as it is for me to say so). Hell, I never even skip 'We Will Fall'! (ok I'm lying) | |

| I can't decide, I've got to listen to everything again. I haven't heard enough Raw Power (but now I've got it, vynil réedition ...), Fun House has a great start. And the first album ... I don't usually skip We Will Fall, but has it as much power as the others ? ... | |

| no, you wouldn't think of 'We will fall' being a powerful song, but that eerily rumbling bass and those unearthly sounds emitting from that guitar in the left channel, it's pretty damn spooky. And the viola's ok too. The effect when Ron's playing quietly is just as incredible as when he's playing loud (in a different way). I just skip this track occasionally because of the length.
The first few minutes of 'Ann' are even spookier tho. Gives me an incredibly 'other-worldly' feel, even for a Stooges song!

| I really can't choose. I would say the A-side of Funhouse, but I listened to Raw Power this morning and I'd never felt such a rush of adrenalin. | |

| I really don't know why, there are some songs on Raw Power I really don't like very much at all. 'Penetration', 'Shake Appeal', and 'Your Pretty Face is going to Hell'. None of these do very much for me. | |

| I may be missing the point here, but nothing about the initial post suggests we are talking Stooges-only. On the contrary, the post practically begs comparison with other artists.
For my money, the greatest Side A in all of rock is David Bowie's Hunky Dory. Hands down.
My fave of the Stooges is Fun House.

| If we are talking other artists then I'd have to go with side one of Talk Talk's Spirit Of Eden. For my money the most beautiful and emotional suite of music I've ever heard. And probably ever will hear. Everytime I play this I'm moved to tears. Seriously. And I've played it hundreds of times. Really.
Interestingly on another thread the Stones' Goats Head Soup was mentioned and now I think about it side one of that album is damn near perfect.
Bowie's Scary Monsters side one is fantastic too.
As is side two of Brian Eno's Before And After Science - arguably the most peaceful and languidly beautiful collection of five tracks ever. That album's "Julie With..." is my all time favourite song.
For the Stooges I'd have to agree with most other posters that side one of Fun House beats all the opposition (though Raw Power side one really does come very close).
Iggy solo is a harder choice, but I reckon that side one of Lust For Life takes some beating.
Cheers,
Richard | |
