- As it happened, the wide perception in music history was that Steve Mackay was dead. As of the year 2000, Stooges biography pages on websites for MTV, VH1, and Rolling Stone Magazine included an item indicating that Mackay had died in the 1970s. The origin of this story is unknown, but journalist Nick Kent reported the 'fact'[1]. The small record label and noise collective Radon disproved the rumor by contacting Mackay and arranging to release his first solo recordings.

| Bob Scheff is still going strong, often to be found playing his own brand of avant-garde piano as 'Blue' Gene Tyranny. His successor on the Stooges' piano stool, Scott Thurston is also still very much alive. He played in Jackson Browne's band for years but since 1991 has been a vital part of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers. Cheers, Richard | |

| It is Sheff, by the way, Heavy Liquid got it wrong and now the mis-spelling seems to be permanent. This is him today, in the selection below... he went on to play with respected composers such as RObert Ashley, under the stage name is Blue Gene Tyranny. http://www.trynka.net/Site/NewYork.html | |

| wow so both sheff and esp thurston went on to greater things after stooges, how often did both sheff play live with the stooges does anyone know? ofcourse scott thurston was pretty much a stooge near the end, but how much did sheff get into it, did he just do those rehearsals on the heavy liquid boxset | |

| Here's info from the Stooges gig list that Funhousehideaway posted in Scene Of The Crime section:
20 June (early show) Whisky A-Go-Go, Hollywood, CA [Ex-Prime Movers Bob Scheff played piano during the Whisky A-Go-Go engagement.]
I don't know if he played on all Whiskey shows in June 1973, though.

| Bob plays on many of the 1973 rehearsal that both Revenge and recently Easy Action have issued. He didn't play many concerts however - he told me - "I played only two live concerts with the Stooges in the 1970s: Ford Auditorium in Detroit, Michigan, March of 1973; and at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles" I was told in fact that Bob dropped out before the end of the June Whisky dates, only playing on the first three nights. And if the only other Stooges gig he played on was the Ford Auditorium gig then we must assume that the Tornado Turner gig and any others in May were played without a pianist. What is unexplained however is how "Bob" is clearly namechcked on the Rubber Legs album, the rehearsal session supposedly recorded in New York in July just before the Max's concerts. According to all sources Bob had been replaced by Scott T by then. So the supposedly New York CBS rehearsals cannot really be from July at all, but must date from much earlier in 1973. Confusing isn't it? Cheers, Richard | |

| Wow it is, but i suppose they were only rehearsals for a failing band so ppl probly didnt make sure to specifically document everything, pity, probly kickin themselves now
speaking of, are all the rehearsals found, like has every recording of the stooges from 68 - 74 been unearthed - what are the chances of hearing something new (though i am quite content with the plethora of recordings available atm!) but is there a chance of someone finding something new?

| There's always a chance. The "I Got A Right" sessions that were put on the Heavy Liquid box were only unearthed by chance a year or so before. No-one knew of their existence before that. So more stuff could come to light.
It's a shame that the 1973 rehearsal stuff is generally rather poor soundwise, but as you say, these were rehearsals of a band no-one much wanted. Money was tight too, and good quality recordings were expensive.
Cheers,
Richard | |

Really? Wow, maybe there is a chance! Wonder why it takes ppl so long to find out, spose it needs an easyaction boxset researcher to find something, not unlike the situation we're in with Unganos, i really hope they get that sorted, that would be cool, and i hope they get that ''coffee table book'' of unganos they were talking about, that would be cool too

| Not to get off topic by getting back on topic but... I heard Jim Morrison was a major influence in more than one way, not just stage presence and all that but song writing. In some interview with Iggy, he mentioned that the song "The Passenger" is based on a Jim Morrison poem about life as a car trip across country...beautiful idea. Anyone know if there are any other influence like that? Where do some of these songs come from... | |

| dunno if this's in the right thread wanted to put this somewhere; Just got the DVD called Iggy Pop - Nightclubbing, except for the France tv gig with Paradis - Hynde and Depp.. there r about 13 bonus songs on it. One of them is the Wild America promo to get to the point..I stopped the player in that promo on the page where were written names of musicians Iggy loved and was influenced by..the list surprised me; Junior Wells Buddy Guy Little Walter Otis Rush Butterfield Band |

| yeah me neither Nadja. Strange that none of these musicians r as far as i know mentioned in books or interviews. When i hear this Butterfield guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gchIPjvIx6k&feature=relatedthan it's pretty obvious that this kind of jazzy blues music influenced Iggy. The blues thing is really something dripping trough his veins Dunno about the other Stooges..but there is something in this, I hear also in Stooges music. Probably the drum and base sound.. First time i'm really aware of these blues biggies |
