The selling out thought is more complicated. I can't get a finger on that one. All attention, also negative...is good for the cash in music business. for some Stooges fans like me it's difficult to take cuz there is hardly any attention for the music in it. The Stooges deserve a huge respect for their music and role in music history! I'm not sure if The Stooges give a shit about this either.

If this is a publicity stunt, it's definitely working! It's keeping the band in the media eye at the moment...beyond myspace, beyond this forum, beyond iggy-pop.com and iggypop.org.

No need to go so overboard! for a start everyone has different opinions (etc etc), and it was just totally weird seeing Madonna and the Stooges mentioned together, I needed SOME time to adjust, right??
of course it was a shock. And of course they can do whatever the eff they like, good on them. This Madonna thing is just a weird concept, is all I'm saying

I have to say, tho, I didn't even much like the idea of them playing Glastonbury last year (Glastonbury's SUCH a borefest)
and am I correct in thinking that Ron got his guitar nicked there for his efforts!!!??? Can someone clear this up for me? And if it was stolen, did he get it back?

This thread has been a subject debated many times, over many years, on many Iggy boards: the purists vs the pragmatists vs the artistically open minded. I was thrilled when I first got the news -- what it could mean for them. It's a PR dream! I had to try to adjust in the oppiste direction, Nadja. As Cyd said, I also don't think Madonna needs his help -- she could be trying to help him, a fellow Detroiter!

Keep in mind Iggy is much bigger across the pond than he is here. 2007 was the first year that he has consistently sold out small to midlevel venues in the states, headlined decent events like Lolapalooza (well there was the Coachella/reunion show) and guested on anyTV shows other than Letterman. The most we hear him here is on that incessant Royal Carribean (Lust) commercial -- the average peron doesn't even know who it is -- and low watt college or the few truly indie and esoterically programmed satellite radio stations. This event could make him (eek, or break) him here!

I just hope he's well rested, his voice is consistent, the audience receptive, he shows for soundcheck, and he does something memorably outrageous. It goes without saying that this is the tightest band he's been with, and they bring rock history with them. He plays his heart out in NYC anyway. If I were a praying type...oh hell, lemme cover all the bases here. I haven't been this excited for Iggy since the Stooges got back together. Can't wait till Monday.

Well said cb - it could be really great and do wonders for the Stooges. While we are all fanatics who love the band and Iggy it's worth putting his 'fame', such as it is, into perspective.
Big exposure like this doesn't happen that often to Iggy.
