OK, I promised in the Party thread some stories, well, might as well start with the craziest of all. Every time I saw or talked to Iggy was like an event, because you never knew what would happen, especially when he was drug sick, like in the early 80s. But like he said in an interview, if you approached him right, and called him Jim, you could often have really good talk with Iggy. But this story is not a nice one, it shows the monster he could be with much cocaine. I used to work as a roadie for the Dead Boys, and in 1981, they were doing a reunion gig at NY's Peppermint Lounge. This was a highly advertised benefit, and some stars showed up, like Jerry Only from the Misfits, and Iggy & Mike Page, who were living together as a couple at the time. On this tour, the Dead Boys girlfriends had all come along, and Johnny Blitz had a great looking girlfriend, Lucasta from the B Girls. Well, of course, Iggy came back to say hi, and we were all in awe of him, even the Dead Boys, who had only met him once or twice before. Here he was hanging out with us & laughing and being friendly. Well of course, the cocaine came out, and the more lines and drinks, the edgier Iggy got. He began hitting on Blitz's old lady, right in front of everybody. The band played, and after we hung out until the club closed, getting more & more fucked up. Mike was getting very upset that Iggy was following this girl around, and of course Blitz, who was a real hothead was getting more & more pissed. Well, the end of the night finally came, and we were all in the street saying goodbye, when Iggy asked her home. Mike Page got really upset and kind of stormed off, but came back and was watching but angry. Lucasta was of course flattered, and was standing there trying to decide what to do, as Iggy held her hand and tried to convince her. Meanwhile Blitz was trying to get everyone to back him up, because he wanted to beat the shit out of Iggy, and wanted us to help back him up. We all were like no way man, we ain't jumping a legend, bro, you get your girl back. So that's what he did, he began pulling her away and there was the big scene with yelling and shoving, but no one fought. Finally, we pulled Blitz away, and Iggy said goodbye to us all. The part in the street was about an hour long as things got uglier & uglier. This was a really crazy scene, it's even hard to express how much tension was there because everyone was really high and being tough guys. Somewhere, I have a posed pic from that night my friend shot, of Iggy, Jerry & Stiv, and Iggy's eyes are total pinpoints. When I find it, I'll post it up. This was the wildest personal experience I had with Iggy, and I can never forget it.
