| anyone like to nominate any fave Stooges riffs?
everything on those first two albums, for me, but a particular personal favourite is 'Little Doll', so mesmerizing it's unbeleivable even for a Stooges track. I don't know what it does to my brain. outside of those two albums, 'Open up and Bleed' has to be one of the most intense riffs in history. Plus the fact that Ron Asheton plays an absolute MONSTER of a bass...

| The riff that comes to my mind without having to think is TV Eye, not very original but so great. | |

| I've just had a re-listen to 'No Sense of Crime' - that is one spooky riff that really gets into your head and what a fabulous song title too, I think it's one of their best!!

| I always had a soft spot for Rubber Legs, dunno why.
Dirt - a fuckin monolithic riff, heavier than the heaviest thing imaginable.
Raw Power - dig those live opening hammerings, piano and all. Hypnotic.
1970 - like a drunken boxer slugging away in the ring.
I Got A Right - such a classic that you almost forget how much of a GODHEAD riff that is. Insane. Volatile as hell it is at the same time funky, cool 50's rock and a totally new sound.
1969 - almost grow fresher for every passing year. Strange. Ultra-crude and simple diddley-in beat. Still they do sooo much with that riff, it's insane. Not just jamming to it, they cast a spell with it. That's not an easy task.

| First of all, among riffs, I would like to honour Dave Alexander with 'Dirt' - one of the grooviest basslines I've ever heard. Honestly, there's so many cool, catchy riffs by both Ron and James. But for sure the one that I can't stop listening to is 'Open Up and Bleed' | |

what a simmering, shimmering, smouldering guitar on that track too. Just about the most sensual, seductive sound I ever heard

| I Wanna Be Your Dog: It has a feel of intensity and torment that complements the song lyrics to perfection.
Shake Appeal/Tight Pants: Again, it's good that a song called "Shake Appeal" would actually make you want to move around!

| this is slightly off-topic, but then you guys brought it up -can anyone tell me whether Lou Reed's 'Metal Machine Music' takes its inspiration from 'LA BLues'? I've heard good things about that. (oh, just remembered there IS a Lou Reed thread...never mind...) | |

| Honestly, I've never heard about that...But Lou's MMM (not really an album, because it's a 64 minute metallic shriek) and 'LA Blues' (definately pure Sun Ra/Coltrane/etc.) are totally opposite when it comes to its sound LOL Interesting information though... | |

| Yeah Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" is all distortion while LA Blues is improvisation. Reed was probably influenced by John Cale who made a floppy plastic single that came free with a music magazine. On one side was a proper song on the other it was all distortion and it had locked groove which meant at the end of the song it just repeated over and over with no gap. | |
