I was surprised that there was no mention at all of the Modern Lovers/Jonathan Richman in Paul's book. The Modern Lovers initial incarnation drew quite a bit of inspiration (and chord changes!) from the Elektra and Columbia eras, but I guess the relationship was a little one sided. Interesting though that the two bands were contemporaries, along with the Velvet Underground, yet they did not share a bill anywhere. Instead we have Jonathan playing miniature golf with Gram Parsons and Elton John visiting Iggy onstage.
