| Ran across three different short briefs on the Stooges being scheduled to play in Winnepeg in Jan. 1974
Winnepeg Free Press, Dec. 12, 1973 By Andy Mellen
SHORT STUFF: On the Subject of shows, I've received a couple of confirmations of upcoming concerts. Jan. 7 at The Playhouse, the volatile, exciting and totally unpredictable Iggy and The Stooges will hit the stage for an 8:30 p.m. performance. The one and only Iggy Pop, who has been known to perform some rather unconventional feats during the course of an evening, is one of my particularly favorite performers and I'm certainly' looking forward to seeing him in action. Also on the bill is Winnipeg's own Mood Jga Jga, which recently finished recording its first album for February release.
Jan 23, 1974 By ANDY MELLEN 'The Stooges? Now, what kind of name is that for a rock band? I recall that was my initial reaction upon learning about five years ago of the existence of the volatile Iggy Pop and his group of heavy-metal punks. Actually, my real introduction to the group came via a review of the band's debut album in an issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The reviewer, Ed Ward, started off by describing the record as "loud, boring, tasteless unimaginative and childish." His next statement was "'. kind of like it." Naturally enough, I had to check it out. What I heard was a bunch of kids just barely out of their teens who had taken a look at the world, decided they didn' like it and opted for the return of a few more basic pleasures. The band played at loud, pain-threshold leve and while I wasn't about to toss out my collection of Rolling Stones records in favor of The Stooges, I, too; sort of liked it.
From postpsychedelic madness.
As Iggy himself proclaims in Search and Destroy, a song from Raw Power, "I'm street-walking cheater with a hat full of napalm, I'm a runaway son of a nuclear A-bomb, I am the world's forgotten boy, the one who searches and destroys." The oft-ridiculed adolescents of 1969 have become one of the most respected power rock bands in their native United States, in addition to being immensely popular in England, which the group uses as its base of operations. Iggy can often be found in the company of such notables as Lou Reed, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant and Elton John, who joined the group for a song or two at a recent British concert. This Friday at 8:30 p.m., The Stooges, along with Winnipeg's own Mood Jga Jga, will transform the Playhouse Theatre into the funhouse. To say the least, should be quite an evening.

I always feel bad whenever I feel that I've let someone down. Even though it's not always my fault there have been occasions when I've felt that I've led my readers down, as was the case this week. As you've probably heard by now, the Stooges' concert which was scheduled for the Playhouse last evening was cancelled for the second time within three weeks, this time for good. Although I had no part in the booking or promotion for the show, other than mentioning it several times in recent columns, I think that the obvious excitement concerning it might have influenced some people to go out and buy tickets for a show they suddenly really wanted to see. I shudder to think that perhaps some people stood outside the Playhouse for up to an hour last night before discovering that the concert had been cancelled. Unfortunately, I have to depend on a number sources to keep me up to date regarding what's happening with any given show. In this case, I was assured Monday evening that everything was go for the concert so I decided to do a small feature on the Stooges to acquaint anyone not familiar with the band with a few vital essentials about Iggy Pop and friends. Then, to my chagrin, I received a telephone call about noon Wednesday informing me that the group's management had in advertently double-booked the band, and as a result theStooges were scheduled to be in both Winnipeg ani Toronto the night of Jan. 25. Naturally, Winnipeg got the short end of the proverbial stick, once again. By this time, of course, it was much too late to change my column, and as a result I'm afraid that some readers might not have heard about the cancellation until too late. To anyone who might have been in convenienced, I offer my sincerest apologies.

| The Toronto show took place on Jan. 25, 1974 at a strip club called the Victory Burlesque. Winnepeg is a different city in Canada. | |

| And yes the Toronto gig did take place, I have seen a photo from that gig a couple years back and recently ran across a ticket stub from it. Imagine the Stooges playing a strip club, double trouble. | |

| Indeed. If they had have continued what songs would have been on the fourth long player. Johanna and Open Up & Bleed would have for sure. Two songs that would have made it well worth the price of admission. | |

| "Head On" was a definite favorite at the time. There were 2 versions of it floating around in the summer of "73.
I am 99% sure that would have been recorded properly and been on the elusive "next" lp.
