| Magnificent!
OK, well, me being a critical sort, I'll get the gripes out of the way first. The venue (Sparta HC - the ice-hockey arena) was cold and their idea of a 'VIP Section' was a raised bit at the back, with yer standard fold down rock-hard seats. I was lucky to have lots of space around me, tho' - and I wasn't really too far from the stage. But for twice the price of the seated sections to the left and right of the podium? not right! I needed an extra layer, too. Next time I'll bring a cushion. And maybe a flask of tea and some biscuits.
And the Stooges shouldn't have played newer mediocrities like 'Little Electric Chair' and 'I'm Fried' when they have classics like 'Not Right' and 'Dirt' (removed from the setlist 'cos it's too slow, right?) in their back catalogue. Even 'Free and Freaky' would have brought more of a smile. Having said that, 'Search And Destroy' was a little too sparse and chugged along almost unrecognisably for a while without that necessary second guitar.
Erm...but that's it, for moans. Nothing major. Nothing that really detracted.
This has to have been one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The Stooges were fierce, tight, blood-red, charging.
They opened with 'Loose' and it was phenomenal. Everything they plucked off Funhouse was a highlight. They replicated the sound of that album perfectly (who'd have expected that?), and I was absolutely rapt, mouthing every word. '1970' was especially impressive (altho' a little brief) - Steve Mackay adding colour with his wailing sax, exactly as it comes on the album, just as you'd dream it.
'Little Doll' as an encore was another thing of wonder. It's odd how things get to you. There's nothing sad or sentimental about that song but hearing these men - whose average age is something like 57 - play this, this thing that's brought me so much pleasure over the years...it brought a tear. I never thought I'd see the day. This is what they mean by 'life-affirming', I suppose.
The band really were great. The Ashetons played everything with such apparent ease, and flawlessly - with the energy of men half their age. And I'd been reading Mike Watt's blog and he comes across as a lovely bloke. Modest, funny, art-loving, and someone who thoroughly enjoys what he does. It shows. He's a hero, he played his low-slung bass with such fury and such focus.
Iggy's the star, and rightly so. He's - to quote my friend Jane who also attended and also had a blast - 'a supremely generous frontman'. With a joyous stage invasion halfway through that he encouraged (that's too weak a word, actually), and multiple 'thank yous' at the end as he stood up there alone, once the band had left, waving in the half-light, I can't disagree.

| Another point about "Little Electric Chair" is that its new which Iggy will like because I'm pretty sure he gets fed up of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" after playing it constantly for almost 40 years although like the brilliant showman he is he knows its what the crowd loves so he does it, sometimes twice. | |

| Don't think Iggy will ever get fed up with the ole songs. They're recharging him while performing!! You can see that. Seems to me he feels great time doing things the same..and than changing some...movements or timing, words, reaction on the audience..whatever..during the show. He's really a perfectionist.. than repeating has a special quality in itself. |

| I'll have to disagree, I've heard numerous Iggy quotes about his older stuff and he semmed a bit fed up of. I don't believe that Iggy is now energised by the music but more by the crowd, thats why he was still incedibly energetic when he preformed stuff off of "Blah Blah Blah", "Instinct" and "Party".
*ducks to avoid things being thrown by "Blak Blah Blah", "Instict" and "Party" fans*

| Yeah but you guys r talking about Iggy his own old stuff! Concerning Stooges stuff i remember he somewhere said he never get's enough of it. And that the sound still amazes him..cuz it's that good. Think he said it in the Dutch 2voor12 interview (Zomergasten 2007)...or it's in the Escaped Maniacs interview.. |

| Yes but before the reunion I'd heard that Iggy was quite bored with his old songs. And if you preformed the same stuff for 40 odd years I'm sure you would be. | |

its an amazing song, and far far far from mediocre I won't argue with you there, folks - it was the first time I'd heard the song and it flew by in a rush. I'd need to hear it again to pass judgement, truthfully. I was just ITCHING to hear 'Dirt' and when I heard 'Little Electric Chair', I just thought 'ach, ANOTHER new one!' - can you dig this? Anyway, like I say, these were very small personal gripes about the gig. Who's dissing 'Party', anyway? Any album with 'Pumpin' For Jill' has to be at least a half-classic! No?

No? i know what u mean about hearing little electric chair, when i listened to skull ring i was mre impressed by like superbabe and stuff than the stooges stuff, i liked electric chair a lot, but i didnt like the others, then i heard the song skull ring live and it makes soooo much more sense live u'no stooges are a live band, to get the songs u have to hear them live u'no, so maybe thats why, since hearing it live i love it u'no, still not too impressed with dead rock star, and esp loser, tho i do like them a lot

| Here's my thought's the Skull Ring stooges songs are best on the album... I don't perfer them live.. I'm not sure why ? And, Dead Rock Star is my favorite skull ring stooges song !! 2nd Is electric chair/skull ring. My favorite song on skull ring, out of all 16 songs, is SUPERBAAAABE ! This is probley in my top 3 favorite Iggy songs EVER ! When I first bought the cd back in 03, and tore that shrink wrap off, and that song came on (4th song) My eye's lit up ! I was in love ! Cheers ! | |
