| This was mentioned briefly on another thread. On the "A Million in Prizes" CD there is a version of Kill City that sounds 100% better than what we are all used to from the Kill City LP/CD/45. If this song can be improved in quality to this degree then one has to wonder if it is a remix or a digital remaster or what???
Whatever method was used to improve this track this much really ought to be used on the rest of the tracks. Is anyone aware of what was done to improve this track?
Does anyone (Paul T ?) know what became of the master tapes. Does James Williamson have them. Maybe Bomp? I'd love to know the answer to this. It's really a shame that one song has been given this treatment and the rest either have not or have and are unreleased.
BTW - I do not own the new version. I have only heard a 30 second clip on ITunes and the difference is that obvious.
Edit - I just downloaded the track from ITunes and it's not even the exact same version. On the original track Iggy sings -
It's a playground to the rich...
On the "new"version he sings -
It's a playground FOR the rich...
I can also hear guitar parts that were either buried in the mix before or simply nonexistent.
It's pretty interesting.

| Funnily enough was listening to some of the said album on Friday night from the 'Penetration' compilation.
The 'Kill City' sessions in my opinion hold some of Williamson/Pop's best material. Some of the drumming here and there is a bit rubbery time keeping wise but a small criticism.
Indeed it would be excellent to hear remixes and subsequent new stereo masters of the other tunes. Was it not Ben Edmonds who paid for them? Therefore he would be the legal owner unless they were sold on.

| A few of the new mixes appear on "Original Punks". You can pick it up pretty easily and its normally very cheap. | |

| It's the best thing - outside of the Stooges - that Iggy's ever been involved with. I'd give my right arm to hear cleaned-up versions (altho' of course part of the album's original appeal was its murkiness). | |

| Hi,
I own the Kill City LP (German pressing, White Vinyl)
And I downloaded the regular CD version and now the "original Punks" compilation.
I just compared all three versions.
The LP version lacks the high tones but contains more stereo information. (for example in conzolation prizes some kind of organ)
The CD-version has more highs, but apart from that the same sound, but hardly any stereo information!!
The original Punks version doesn't have more stereo effect, but iggys voice sounds better, guitar too. So my guess, for the original punks release, they just EQ-ed the songs, but not a real remaster. |

| Aren't the alternate mixes of Johanna and Consolation Prizes the same as on the Jesus Loves the Stooges 7"? I think those were among the batch James passd on to Bomp Records back in '78. | |

| Can anyone help with this query? I'm not too sure of my post-raw power history.
I think the Penetration comp is great but are the Kill City songs earlier demos or the same recordings as Kill City album.
and what was the line-up for those recordings?
cheers | |

So does "Year Of The Iguana", which I have. Much better than the Kill City version.

cheers there are no kill city demos since kill city were demos itself. in 1977 james reworked the demos, extra guitars,sax,remix,diff.edits.those were released as kill city i have a white label test pressing of kill city and this one is the same as the normal lp the original mixes are unreleased for the line up see the sleeve of the lp

| cheers neven, i dont have kill city just Penetration comp. i did kinda figure that those songs were just a pop/williamson project, no ashetons involved. thats why i thought it strange that Penetration is titled "Iggy Pop & the stooges" but i dont wanna start an arguement about what constitutes as 'the stooges' we could be here to next year on that topic!!! cheers. | |

| Oh, I just checked 'Million in Prizes" credits and it has the info on Kill City. I first heard of the Sales bros back when Tin Machine happened.
I also remember around 1991 there was programme on the BBC about Punk and they showed a great clip of Iggy with the Sales doing Lust for life. Surely one of the best basslines in rock history. I knew nothin about Iggy at the time but was most impressed. If not just by his performance then by the horses tail he was wearin!! LOL. I wonder if that footage is available on DVD - it was great. It was a seated concert which seemed very odd and probably frustrating for the Ig.

| I think that footage of Iggy doing Lust for Life *might* be on a DVD called 'Punk'?
I read about one which had a song or two from the second '77 tour, not got it myself though...

| I'm pretty sure the footage did reach DVD as I intended to buy it once and didn't get round to it. I've trawled over loads of punk DVD's, the trouble is many don't list the songs on them! So to recap I believe it's been out on DVD, but can't prove it However did notice this...Punk: Attitude [DVD], a film by Don Letts, includes The Stooges. I guess that's probably the reformed line up though? Not saying it wouldn't be good of course (the Hammersmith 2005 was my joint favourite concert ever), but clarification would be nice if anyone knows what the footage is. Personally I think it's criminal that the fullest Cincinatti footage is youtube quality and hasn't been fully released on DVD (bar the except on the 'This is Iggy' DVD). Hey, that reminds me...the Dutch documentary on Iggy (from 1986) is up for an official DVD release...Ron was interviewed on it, according to Dime, as they banned it being seeded for that reason (official release due they said). Probably all of the above is old news to everyone here, since I'm a newbie! | |

I've got the this but havent watched in a while. I think its the 'peanut butter' concert (Cincinnati?) footage maybe sum B&W stuff as well. i think it's only a small clip anyway. Not worth getting just for the stooges stuff but overall not bad dvd - mostly 'talking head' interviews

I do have a DVD-R I got of the footage, off ebay before I got into downloading off Dime etc. I can't be sure it's better than youtube quality which of course is compressed. Aside from maintaining my stance that the longest length (and best quality version) of this footage should come out on DVD, I am slightly surprised the longer clip hasn't been on the download sites. That said Dime - and a couple of the others - would not host it due to the offiicial releese of the portion on the 'Jesus This Is Iggy' DVD. I think MWP are less paranoid about hosting stuff that's *ever* come out officially than some of the other sites, if anyone has a version of the Cincinatti footage they know is not youtube/compressed in terms ot it source that they want to share...

Makes me feel almost like a vulture thinking like this...paticularly as Ron didn't play much of a part if any at all by the KC stage...but I do wonder whether certain Stooges related things will hit the market in the near future. Part of what makes me think this is that the Iggy Pop (inc a lot of Stooges footage, and I seem to remember, a Ron interview, I think?) documentary from Dutch TV from 1986 is out on DVD soon - think that was according to a link Dime dug up when they banned a torrent of it. Anyway, I wonder if someone might get the masters off Bomp. To be honest I quite like the original sound though...when I first got into CD's I loved the clarity...then after some years I got into the original (pressing...early pressings are the best) vinyl sound. I actually like the Kill City CD that was mastered from vinyl (the one with the extra tracks, with the nice pic of a Stooges era Iggy in a hat in the inside cover) more than the Bomp CD. The latter sounded muddier. I guess a CD which didn't alter the original mix too much and captured as close as possible what hit the original vinyl would be my cup of tea for any 'remaster' of the original tapes.

Not worth getting just for the stooges stuff but overall not bad dvd - mostly 'talking head' interviews Hmm...I wonder if this clip is the longest version (which I think was 4-5 minutes?). Shame no-one can find a recording of the whole Cincinatti performance! I went over to the US in the 90's a couple of times, and I used to like picking up the 'Goldmine' collecting magazine...with respect much nicer looking than 'Record Collector'...in the back they had ads for bootleg videos including the whole Cincinatti TV broadcast. I'd plan to order it a couple of times back then, but then I'd have had to pay another £30 or whatever to get it transferred to PAL. When I finally saw the full colour footage (having only had the audio and maybe at best a black and white clip on video) of the Cincinatti show I was amazed!! It's a brilliant piece of archive film.
