| cincinatti was televised at the time in a 90minutes special. the stooges were in it for half of tv eye ,then came a commercial, then half of 1970,that's it!!.the tv company does not have kept high quality tapes of this.the best quality available is on the jesus this is iggy dvd(too bad the sound is not complete) someone from a recordcompany or tv company had a vcr(one of the first)and recorded this of tv,that's were everything orignates from
i read in an old magazine that cincinatti was broadcasted in fm stereo so this is different audio but this never surfaced sadly.
kill city were a bunch of demos, there's no vocal on master charge,so it wasn't finished.however tapes were send out to recordcompanies in 1975(where are they) but no one was interested they were reworked in 1977 by james and then released as kill city(to cash in on iggy's succes?)

| Actually given that in the last few years a lot of 'pre FM' tapes (for instance of bands like Talking Heads) have emerged, maybe there's a chance that someone somewhere will dig up tapes of the show... | |

Hi, new member here who's been lurking a while and just got round to finally posting. I think the real question here is where are the masters to the original 1975 mixes of the Kill City tracks, as opposed to the 1977 mixes that were used as the basis for the released LP. I don't have Original Punks but a few of the tracks are on Youtube. Johanna is obviously different - as others have said, it doesn't have the sax which suggests it's an original mix, pre-dating the 1977 overdubs. Kill City, however, sounds like the album version to me - unlike the Million In Prizes version, which is obviously different/better. The Original Punks Consolation Prizes that's on Youtube is definitely the album version to my ears, so I guess it's the other one on that CD that must be the alt mix. The other Kill City/Original Punks stuff that I've heard - $Night Theme, I Got Nothing and Sell Your Love - sounds like the same mixes as the LP to me, just differently mastered. So as far as I can tell Original Punks hasn't broken anything new: the only two original mixes are Johanna and Consolation Prizes, which have been released previously. To these we can add the Million In Prizes version of Kill City, but the rest of the 'real' version of that album is still lost out there somewhere!

| I have the full broadcast on VHS... somewhere. I can confirm that the footage mentioned above is the only Stooges content. I found the rest of the show tedious - Mountain? Alice Cooper. Probably worth another look. | |

Are you sure? That version sounds like the same mix as the album to me, just mastered differently. I hadn't heard about there being a different I Got Nothing out there. Any chance you could upload the Pure Lust version?

| It's actually an LP/CD on Line Records. To confuse things further, there are two other editions on Bomp, both with the same artwork - an EP from the late '70s with I'm Sick Of You/Tight Pants/Scene of the Crime, and a much later CD version with the same three tracks (mastered from vinyl) plus later live versions of those songs from Iggy's solo tours. | |

Thanks for that. I have both of the Bomp releases. Line is a German company, I think. I'll start looking around.

| Line Records released the Kill City album in Germany exclusively (afaik..) But on the LP Label they write that they release it licensed by Bomp! records. So it is very likely that Line Records won't do any re-mixing on their own. And the tracks HSJW uploaded don't sound that different and mf-rocking at all... |

| I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but given in another thread (the Raw Power box set one?) it was mentioned that there now is software that can strip a track down to (or at least replicate) its components - ie bass, guitar, drums etc - I do wonder if anyone had this or something almost as good that costs less than a house, if the Kill city tapes had gone missing, whether someone might fancy trying to reconstruct it as it was originally recorded! | |

There is a very noticable difference in sound quality (its not just me being geeky )

| Yes.
The CD - the one with the extra tracks and the pic of Iggy wearing a hat in the booklet - which was taken from the vinyl sounds a lot better than the 'official' CD.

| should mention, btw, that i was listening to these versions, which i can hear as very different, through headphones, in-ear, decent ones, so maybe that makes it easier to hear the other guitars or layers or whatever i dunno, but, just listening to no sense of crime again, such a difference, very clean
also, was lookin up iggy on itunes, it shows the most recently released albums as being he's frank, the 1977 box (good for those who didnt get it, nice packaging but only about half of the contents worth it) but also kill city as being released on 29th Jan 2008 - anyone know anything about this?
