| According to Iggy in roadie section of "I Need More" - Zeke Zettner is dead. Of course, there seems to be some innacurate info in the book too which makes you wonder how good Mr. Pop's memory is - but either way, he claims Zeke is no longer walking among us. | |

Its a well know fact Zeke died in 1973 of a heroin overdose, its also mentioned in the spoken intro to Iggy's song "Dum Dum Boys". Only 25 years old... | |

| Bob,
Hey! Danny has not gotten in touch with me yet either and he's had the info for about 3 weeks. I figure if it's important enough, he'll find me when he needs me.

| I've got a random Zeke question...does anyone know when exactly he left the band and whether it was an amicable split? It must have been around Jan/Feb '71? and did he ever meet his replacement Jimmy Recca? I always wanted to know more about him since he was with the band for such little time and died so young. | |

| The Stooges didn't play any gigs after December 1970 until the May / June dates now immortalised on the You Don't Want My Name set. Zeke drifted out of the band during this period, and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't have been amicable. He'd been a Stooges roadie before his sudden 'promotion' when Dave Alexander was pushed out, and the Stooges family was a pretty close-knit one. Did he carry on roadie-ing while Recca played bass? Natalie, do you know? Cheers, Richard | |

| If you re interested in early stooges photos you cant go wrong with Leni Sinclair, in my opinion. She has a wide range of prices and many different shots. Also Jenny Lenz. | |

| Zeke joined the band in August of 70 when Dave left. I saw the band perform in NYC and Boston and New Jersey in August and twice in September of 70 and Zeke was playing bass. In October of 70, James came into the picture. The next time I saw the guys was in December of 70 where I met James for the first time. There were complications and curfew restrictions and although Iggy guested that night with Catfish, the Stogges did not play. Billy Cheatham had reverted back to a roadie after the September gigs but when the band started to play again the following spring, Zeke was no longer around. If memory serves me, at that time Dave Dunlap and Leo Beatie were doing the roadie detail. | |

| Thanks so much Natalie! So I guess James was playing with the Stooges well before Dec. 5, which has been widely (at least around here) regarded as his first show... | |

| If you scroll through the comments on this Iggy video, you'll find "merriezettner" (purportedly Zeke's little brother) and a "oldiebgoody", purportedly a woman who dated another Zettner brother. Might be worth a follow-up. Might fill in some blanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPy9Tua6YLo | |
