| It's defanitly from the Factory, The Show at kiel was supossed to be where it was played, but it was cancled as theequiptment bus never arrived. so they played the gig the following night at st.charles (in missouri near st.louis) The show was cut short after 5 song's as Iggy Whacked Ron asheton over the Head With his Mic Cord while he was swinging it around (u hear a bang and iggy says fuck, and dropps the mic)during that 5th song.
The band came back out without ron, and played 1 more song, then called it quit's.
The fan's were mad because they night before got cancled and was made up at this location, then this happend. so Iggy was cool about it, and hungout in the crowd for alittle bit, after they were done playing..
The Real Setlist Would from My Knowledge (although I Do not known the last song's title, here's how I would list it as.
1.I Gotta Right 2.You Don't Want My Name 3.Fresh Rag 4.Do You Want My Love 5.Big Time Bum 6.Unknown ?
P.s. - The rare better sounding version exist's and trustme its alot better sounding, and its alittle bit longer... its very good recording.

| Thanks. Nice to have the correct track list and a bit of history. I'm sure it will add to the enjoyment next time I can summon up the enthusiasm to listen to my iggy on helium recorded from the bathroom of the building across the street version. | |

| heheh yeah that starfighter version sounds like it was recorded across the street in a toiletwith the lid closed, lol my copy is the same source, but not multi gen, mines like 2nd gen, the starfighter is a 10th gen put on vinyl, then transfered to cd | |

| Thanks for this - interesting thread. The 1971 Stooges are little known about, but the terrible sounding boot reveals an astonishingly powerful band despite the awful quality. We could really do with a better quality boot doing the rounds. Cheers, Richard | |

| A coolt thing is that you really think that the boys should be able to play I got right since it's Ronald and Rock who made the song. | |

It's called "Live 1971 & Early Live Rarities" and it's on the Starfighter label.

| Being a Stooges desperado, I think the Starfighter version is worth downloading (hey, or even buying!) as it's just so damn fascinating to hear it.
Someone's uploaded it to an MP3 blog (sorry, I've lost track of which)
Put it on loud in your lounge and go and sit in your kitchen - shit bootlegs are much improved by hearing them through a wall, I find.

| I'm currently sharing the Modern Lovers recordings I got from dimeadozen (a great live gig and some demos) but I don't get many takers...
If someone can leak it, I'll keep it up to share!

| So a better recording of this unbelievably interesting gig exists and nobody has bootlegged it in all these years? Hmm.... I've owned the Starfighter-cd for years, but have found it almost impossible to listen despite the unreleased songs. | |

| Don't get your hopes up. The existence of a better version is unconfirmed. The rumors of a better version started about a year ago. There's some heavy hitters on this forum (Richard Adams, Paul Trynka, Shakes) and as far as I know none of them have heard this better version. The only person claiming to have it is JLTS and apparently he's not sharing. | |

| I've discussed this with a few people who say they have the better/alternate version and they say there is hardly any difference.
Maybe someone has tried to do their own clean up of the sound on the Starfighter CD and this is what it is.
We just need to wait patiently for a release of the Chicago 71 tape that Paul T mentions in his book.

| The 1971 band is awesome, James and Ron on guitars. I would want to hear more songs from that era, with good quality. | |

| For those who haven't read the book - Paul Trynka talks about having heard this unreleased tape from Chicago 1971 in Open Up and Bleed in 'Notes and Sources' at the back of the book on page 391. He says the set is "far more brutal and impressive" than the Kiel/Factory St Charles tape. Fingers crossed it'l l be released sometime soon! | |
