According to Per's list on The Stooges 1971 page....

27 May The Factory, St. Charles, MO
28 May Tumbleweed, Walled Lake, MI [Cancelled because the band was stuck in St. Louis.]
29 May Sports Arena, Toledo, OH [Most likely cancelled.] ...NOT
30 or 31 May "East Coast First Great Lighter Than Air Fair": Monroe Estates, Pittsburgh, PA [Most likely cancelled.]
16 July Palladium, Hollywood, CA [Cancelled because the band had broken up.]
24 July Pavilion, Wampler's Lake, MI club (owned by Punch Andrews), Ann Arbor, MI [Without Iggy and James.]
7 Aug Pavilion, Wampler's Lake, MI [Cancelled.]

... it would seem the last show for the 1971 5-piece line up was the St. Louis show.

But, as evidenced below, they DID play Toledo on the 29th... I was there.
Is it likely the Toledo show was the last?
BTW, note those ticket prices!!!

Was last 5-piece show May 29, 1971 Toledo? 71.05.29

I can verify that it was not cancelled. I found four identical ads for the show in The Toledo Blade (newspaper). Three of them dated it May 29 (in three prior 'sunday entertainment sections'). The fourth, on May 29 itself, listed it as "Tonight". Clearly verifying the date. I remember these ads well and know they were accutate.

Chazz,
I know! It's a mistake, but the list haven't been update for some time. Instead we're focusing on the CAUGHT IN THE ACT - STOOGES LIVE 1967-74 book project - to which you kindly have contributed! You probably saw the very last show of the 5-piece unit. Unless we can confirm that Stooges played at the Pittsburgh festival.

Hi!

Are there any PITTSBURGH Stooges/Iggy fans out there, who might be able to help out w. details on the 2 Stooges gigs in 1971 - we have no info on whether they were played, although it seems likely that the 5 May 1971 gig happened. Is there any way some helpful souls could examine newspaper archives? It would be immensely appreciated and we'll give full credit to any one helping out with info. It's for the CAUGHT IN THE ACT Stooges live documentation book I'm doing with Natalie Schlossman amonst others.

Per

Wednesday, 5 May 1971: Dilly Lounge, Pittsburgh, PA
Nothing is known about this show.

Sunday or Monday, 30 or 31 May 1971: Monroe Estates, Pittsburgh, PA – Soundstorm ’71, East Coast First Great Lighter Than Air Fair: The festival was produced by Golden Freak Enterprises. The bill included Little Feet, A Group Called God, Steve Miller Blues Band, Country Joe MacDonald, Mother Earth, and Crow. It is unclear whether the Stooges were scheduled to play on Sunday or Monday, or, in fact, whether they performed at all.

Here's a link that might help on the Pittsburgh show - http://community.post-gazette.com/blogs/popnoise/archive/2009/01/06/stooges-guitarist-flames-out-at-60.aspx

The Stooges' only local performance was May 5, 1971 at a club called the Psyche-Dilly in McKees Rocks (also at the club that year were the MC5, Amboy Dukes and Little Feat).

Thanks for the info Larry - I've heard about that Stooges show at the Psyche-dilly for years but could never find the date. (McKees Rocks is just across the Ohio River from downtown Pittsburgh.) The article neglected to mention that Ron played here in '78 and '79 with Destroy All Monsters at a club called Phase III in Swissvale. Just by coincidence I was planning a trip to the library at Pitt tomorrow night, and I'll see what I can find about the Soundstorm '71 festival. I've never heard of it before.
