Seriously? I can't tell if you're joking or not but its a very rare film of a complete Stooges concert from 1970.

| Its not. Uganos is an audio recording of a whole Stooges set from 1970. The film you're thinking from is a different show and the collector wants a ridiculous ammount of money for it so it probably won't see the light of day for a while. | |

| Getting back to the original intent of this thread, please do mail them requesting they release the Unganos recording. A few of us already have - the more requests they receive, the better the chance they will release it. Only takes a minute - go for it! | |

We would like to inform you that currently we do not have the The Stooges called "Ungano's" set available so its not listed in the website either. The information of its availability in future will be updated in future. We apologize for the inconvenience.

| Has anyone actually heard these shows?
I've been lucky enough to talk to Steve Mackay a few times and he said those shows were killer. He confirmed that Miles Davis was in the crowd one night but with his fingers in his ears!

| I have not heard these tapes but I attended every show the Stooges performed at Unganos. I can confirm that the shows were killer in February and August 1970. | |

| In a separate thread on this forum entitled "Rhino gutted," Robert Matheu discussed that Rhino do have the Unganos tape, and suggested it may be released this year to mark the 40th anniversary of the gigs. I so hope this happens; hearing the Zettner/Cheatham version of the band would be fantastic!! | |

| I read somewhere thar Ron and Miles were sniffing coke together back stage after this gig. I also read that Miles liked the band and thought they were very authentic (was this in Please Kill Me or one of those NYC rock books?)
The mind boggles, but I always thougt there was a touch of Stooges in Miles mid seventies material like "On the Corner" and "Aghartha"

The quote about Miles doing blow w/the Stooges comes from Please Kill Me, one listen to Agartha and Pangea, Miles last records before his '74 "retirement" shows that he was indeed influenced by the early Stooges. The Uganos tape was bought by Rhino from Danny Fields who recorded it on his cassette deck (same deck used to record the Velvets' Max's live album, it was acutally Brigitte Berlin (nee' Polk)'s machine, I believe. Oddly enough Rhino didn't buy the photos of that line-up, Danny sold those to us, although the Peter Hujar Estate probably has the negatives. I've seen other non-published photos from that show taken by various fans also. Given how fast the Funhouse box sold out, no doubt Rhino Handmade will be releasing the tapes at some point, but a letter and/or e-mail campaign to speed things is a good idea.

| I thought Danny sold the Unganos Tape to a third party who has now possibly sold this on to Rhino. Said third party also has colour Unganos photos from Danny Fields, however I thought these were taken by Danny himself not Peter Hujar. He says they are better than Leee Childers and Dustin Pittmans Unganos photos, if they really are I hope Rhino do get 'em and put a stunning Ungano's release together!

| mc,
Danny did take photos at Unganos. I remember him running around and in front of me. I also have some Unganos photos I took which will be available at some time soon. Mine are color and they are good for snapshots.

| Natalie this is something Dustin Pittman recently said in an interview. Any truth to this?
"Danny Fields who was a very good friend of mine was Iggy’s manager. Iggy used to come to New York, and he had an incredible reputation for smashing photographers’ cameras. No way could a photographer shoot Iggy in concert. He would smash the camera in two seconds. But Iggy and I were friends. He used to stay over at Danny’s place over on 20th or 21st street, a couple of blocks from Max’s. I used to go to Danny’s all the time, and we used to do our thing and hang out. And Iggy and I always had a pact. That I would be able to photograph him the way I wanted to photograph him, in concert, and he wouldn’t smash my camera. It was fantastic. And I got incredible, incredible pictures. Everyone was always totally frightened to death to get close to him."

| This would be fantastic, a cd release with photos of the actual gig. This plus the Raw Power reissue make 2010 a great year for us Stooge boys. | |

| mc,
I remember reading that post by Dustin a while ago and thinking, bullshit!
Yes, Danny and Dustin knew each other and I met Dustin through Danny. That part is true about them knowing each other.
When the Stooges played at Max's, they stayed at a hotel called the One Fifth Avenue. It was located right at Washinton Square which is the end of 5th avenue. Iggy was there, not staying at Danny's during those shows.
In addition, Iggy always liked getting his picture taken, I never saw him go after a camera ever.
I ran into Dustin at that Iggy and Robert book signing and he was comical at best. I think it is another case of too much excess in the 70's.

| That was my thinking too. I read something else about Iggy jumping on Dustin's lap and him being very uncomfortable about it. He also has his Unganos photos credited as from 1969, excesses as you say! | |

| The Stooges played at Unganos in 1970 only. They did a set of gigs in Feb with Dave on bass and a set of gigs in Aug with Zeke on bass. They did not play in 1969 any place in NY except the Pavillion.
I keep telling you, too many tall tales, LOL.

| I was thinking about this mysterious Unganos tape today. If it was the same machine as Brigit Polk used to record the Velvets Maxs gig, the quality should be excellent. Has anyone on here actually heard this tape? Also does anyone know what the set list was? I am fantasising about a live version of TV Eye Have there been any other whisperings from Rhino? It also crossed my mind that if the quality is not excellent they wont release it. THe only live bootleg i know they relesed was the Television Old Waldorf show and that was one of the best sounding boots from the 70's | |
