Iggy & The Stooges to Perform for Madonna at Rock Hall Ceremony

According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Iggy & The Stooges will perform for Madonna at this year’s induction ceremony. Madonna will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next week, March 10th with a tribute by Iggy Pop and his band, The Stooges.

The Museum will broadcast the 2008 Induction Ceremony from the Waldorf Astoria (no tickets available) in New York City on several giant screens located throughout the building. There will a drawing for a pair of tickets to the 2009 Induction Ceremony held in Cleveland. (You must be present to win.) The 2008 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees are Leonard Cohen, the Dave Clark Five, Madonna, John Mellencamp, the Ventures, Little Walter and Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. A cash bar, soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $5 and are available through Ticketmaster and at the Museum box office.

VH1 Classic will be airing the show live on March 10. VH1 will show it on March 22.

Wow, have the Stooges stooped to aping Madonna for some Hall of Fame visibility? For shame...

Every act invited on stage that night plays a song by the inductee. Them's the rules. It's a tribute to the winners. An honor in itself. Transmitted via satellite all over the world. Iggy's had his own tributes over the years, just not HOF, yet. I'd think anybody in show business that was asked would wanna be a part of that for her. Then the person getting inducted does one of their own songs or a medley. Or in Patty Smith's case last year she sang, well, Dog? It's fun ... it's fun.

More acts need to do what the Pistols did...and tell the HOF to stick it. Next year, maybe Cyndi Lauper will ask Iggy to perform "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."

It ain't exactly like they're playing a tribute to Al Yankovic. SOMEBODY likes Maddie--what did she sell like nine billion albums? Wish I could get to that HOF and see the sites. My man went there last year looking for Iggy stuff to bring back home to me with no success. Bless his heart, I had to tell him the unfortunate tale that they won't take Iggy. Isn't Johnny Rotten THE only muttonhead that turned down the HOF? Such a crybaby.

I think we all agree that high sales or enormous popularity doesn't equal good, enjoyable music.
Iggy's last recordings all tell how he hates music industry, why on earth will he join this establishment party?

Oh hun, clips of that whole ceremony will be up on Youtube the day after, March 11. We'll just have to type in "Stooges at HOF" in the search engine on that site. I'm SURE it will be the talk of the town. It'll only be one song from the Stooges, BUT it'll be fabulous to see the Stooges play ANYTHING besides:

Come on, Any time the stooges are on t.v. it's a good time. Just think, there are probably thousands of sixteen year olds who have never heard of the stooges more less seen them. Maybe if they make enough noise we'll get a real U.S. tour this fall. As far as J. Rot goes,I'm sorry but he's not even a pimple on Iggys ass.

I'm gonna guess and say the song is gonna be "Like a Virgin" Well, the Lords of The New Church covered it...so I guess it ain't too bad if the Stooges do it. It might turn out to be awesome. You never know...

Then again, I can sympathize with those that feel this is a lame idea. I was kind of taken aback when I heard about this too.

Yeah Dave...you can also read it in the responses from people/fans in the Rolling Stone article in the last link (of my post). I think this act is a really tough cookie for a big part of the hardcore Stooges fans....how could I say this sharper? don't know the proper English way to express it ....well..everybody probably knows what I mean by now.

I can't really see the problem.
The Stooges will have a ball playing some souped version of a Madonna hit. Plus, they will (hopefully) blow all the other acts away, steal the show and generally raise their profile enormously.
Seems like a smart move to me.
Just take it like it's meant - just a bit of harmless fun.

It's a much better idea than doing Fashion Rocks. If people want to make some money you are going to have to live with it. Iggy is not the sort to turn down an opportunity to make some quick cash. He's certainly more interested in boosting his bank balance than maintaining his "integrity".

I agree on your point that The Stooges have to make the money! And they DESERVE IT as no other!!!!! completely agree with that one!
It's not about 'integrity'! It's about; I really wanna get the music on the first row of attention and no embarrassments or insults in the media...While Madonna gets the credits. You know it could turn out the other way around...that The Stooges will get LESS out of it. Don't wanna happen this. Really hope I won't see it right! That Fashion Rocks thing was more harmless

I'm not really sure how the Stooges will get less out of it. Any publicity is good surely?
