Thursday march 26th
I know that Iggy was doing a press conference about his new album “Preliminaire”. As a big fan, I decided to come and try to see him, with my “Funhouse” vinyl album, maybe I’ll be lucky enough to get it signed…
I arrived at about 11.30 am, waiting for the end of the conference and may see Iggy going outside to his car. I wait, I wait and I wait in a cold wind about 2 hours. I was wondering about what to do: should I stay or should I go back to my house, I was very cold…I turned around the place once again and, what did I see by the British bar window : Iggy was in the “club lounge” with a woman. I watched one more time to be sure…yes, it was Iggy sitting there!!!
I couldn’t believe it, I decided to enter into the British bar…let’s go, I had to take this chance.
So, I came in and went to Iggy’s table.
I’ll try to tell you how it was.
Me: Hi, I’m sorry for disturbing you, but I saw you by the window, and I’m a big big fan, so I couldn’t resist.
Iggy: Hi, it’s okay, well, could you wait until I finish the interview, then, I’ll come to see you.
Me: Oh, okay, thank you very much!!!!
So I went to a table near the one where he was doing his interview (for Rock and Folk) and I took a coffee. The interview may have last 30 minutes I could hear quite well, and I can tell you that he said he had been talking about the future of the Stooges with Steve Jones and James Williamson, but nothing was decided. I tried to be concentrate to hear the most things but I was quivering….He also talked about death, he thinks it would be great to die by a shark attack, many things but as I told you I was spaced out. The interview ended and the photographer told Iggy to come and take pictures. But Iggy told him that he’ll come to see me first. The he came and sat with me!!!
Iggy: Thank you for waiting!
Me: I thank you for giving time to me. I was in the audience of the show “La musicale” yesterday and Tuesday, it was great!
Iggy: Oh! You were there, yeah it was great. Do you want me to sign something?
Me: Yes, I’ve got the Funhouse vinyl album…
Iggy: Oh, it’s a new one?
Me: Yes…unfortunately
Iggy: Oh no it’s cool! What is your name?
Me: Marine
He spelled it in French in the same time I did in English, it was funny! Then he draws a heart, horns on his head, and signed the jacket.
Me: Thank you very much! I’ll put it on my wall
Iggy: That’s cool!
Me: I love your song “O Solo Mio” from the weirdness album
Iggy: Oh, thank you, I love it too, but it wasn’t on the cd
Me: It’s a great great song, it’s my favourite, I bought the vinyl album.
Iggy told a man of his crew who was near from us, “yes we should have put it on the cd, I agree!” as regret…
Me: Have you planed to tour again?
Iggy: Yes
Me: With the Stooges or alone?
Iggy: I don’t know yet.
Me: I wanted to tell you that I was very sad about Ron’s death, sad for him, for you, and for the group…How are you now?
Iggy: Well, I’m fine; I’m fine - Looking at me in the eyes - Thank you. And he gave me a hug.
The photographer, impatient, told him again to come…
Iggy: I’m sorry; I have to go for photos…
Me: Thanks you again!
Then, he gets up and went to the photographer and journalists.
WOW, I still can’t believe it!!!! Iggy gave me few minutes and sat with me, having a coffee. I’ll never forget this moment.
