Its one of my favourites (if not my favourite), my favourite Stooges line up during my favourite Stooges period. They just all look so cool Scott looking uncaring, Iggy midway through flailing about, Ron getting on with his sound and Dave just looking downright evil. Its just a great picture!

There was something interesting in a magazine 6 years ago... an article about collectors, and a french guy who collects Stooges and Iggy stuff said : "I've got a polaroid of the Stooges from 1970. A friend who lives in New York gave it to me for my birthday. he found it in a garbage can, with six or seven shots of the band. [...] Maybe someone's still looking for them."

I wonder if the second photo is of Stooge roadie Eric Haddix? Hair looks to long and he is using a screwdriver on the cab. Nice stooge logo on that cab, pre dating the S used by Kiss.

These are from the W.F. Herman Secondary School 1971 yearbook (covering events at the school from 9/70 - 6/71). The school is located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada right across the river from Detroit.

I photocopied them years ago as a student, but sent someone back to scan them recently.

The Stooges supposedly played Windsor Arena on 9/20/70. Another southwestern Ontario gig took place at the University of Guelph in late April, early May '71.

This gig would've been in that time-frame. (I don't see this bunch being eager to make too many border crossings. Lemmy was kicked out of Hawkind after getting busted at the Detroit/Windsor border a few years later). Those look like the 8/70 stage-pants, but now the right leg is missing. The dog collar has been replaced by a necklace.

If closer to the 9/70 gig - that might be Zettner.
If closer to the 3/71 gig - that's Williamson. (I think it is).

Either way, they are post-Dave and pre-glitter paint.

Good point about the roadie. Never seen a shot of Haddix. I'd always assumed it was Iggy.

Interesting, hadn't noticed that, the neclace is some kind of chain and it's on the floor underneath him in the dog shot.

Can someone who knows their guitars tell if that's a lead or a bass ie Williamson or Recca?

Thats James Williamson with a Les Paul guitar.

Best guess, late fall of 1970. Williamson's first gig to my understanding is Dec. 5, 1970 at Farmington High School in Farmington, Michigan. Williamson remembers it as being at a high school if memory serves me correct. Maybe his first gig was in November of 1970 at a high school in Windsor. Could be?

Are there recordings somewhere of that line-up?

Theres only one gig of this line up avalible so far but in two versions. One with awful sound quality ("1971 & Early Live Rarities") and one with much better sound quality that you can find in the bootleg thread.

Noo..' and suddenly my common sense told me 'Damn, it's James!' hahah So it must be either late 1970 or early 1971 gig as Ron is not playing his Les Paul yet (as in e.g. St. Louis photos).
