- Second - and most importantly - where did you get the info that Ron got an increase in pay to play songs from Raw Power. That is patently absurd. I had several conversations with Ron before he died regarding playing those songs. They all came from the idea that the band had been playing the same songs for several years and that to mix things up AND to give the fans something they would want it would be a nice gesture to play something from that era. He was, absolutely, reticent but gave in when he had heard it from so many people that he realized that it would be a nice gesture.
Niargara or Captain Galaxy (I gorget which) said that Ron had gotten an increase in pay for playing these songs. I'm sure there was element of doing it for the fans as Ron was a very nice, genuine person. I have no problem with Iggy & The Stooges doing Stooges songs or when The Stooges played Iggy & The Stooges songs. But this is not for the fans, the fans are there to see Iggy & The Stooges not Iggy Pop solo. This is an ego thing on Iggy's part he's treating the band he's in like a backing band.

Since when was Niagara or Captain Galaxy in charge of the Stooges financial business ? Iggy has always been the boss in The Stooges, so to say that it's an ego thing, oh c'mon...Everybody knows that Iggy is the boss. When I was at the Stooges shows, I was thinkin..Oh, I wish they would do few of Iggys solo songs too, there´s so many great songs. I think Ig had a such long career - I have no probleam with hearing Stooges play them. The only thing I´m worried is Scott...it takes a lot of energy to play those songs.

| No but Niagara and Colonel Galaxy were good friends with Ron. And Iggy isn't the boss, he helped shape the songs sure but him and Ron were always on equal footing in the early days then him and James. Iggy is not better or more important than any of the other Stooges. I think James and Scott just want to play live and are't that bother what they play. That leaves Iggy with control now which I don't like. | |

I'll take Ron's word for why he did things before I'll take Niagara's or Captain whoeverthefuck's. Niagara has said things since Ron's death that would seem to indicate to me that she would rather see her name in print than offer up the truth. In my opinion. There was a time (go back and look at my "What would happen if James rejoined -or whatever I called it - thread) when you stated that this version of the Stooges should not play anything from the Elektra, Skull Ring or Weirdness records. Opinions can change if we don't dig our feet in. There are also several interviews with James where he states that he felt the Stooges, throughout their career, made a mistake by playing little or nothing from their (then) recent albums and concentrating on new songs that the audience didn't know. He has said that they didn't want to make that mistake this time and intended to play songs from throughout their and Iggy's career. That is not an exact quote, obviously, but it seems to have been his intention. James thought long and hard about coming back and doing this. He doesn't need to. He is pretty well set in life (or so it would seem) and I find it hard to believe that he (or Scotty) is being pushed around by Iggy and forced to do things that they don't want to do. Also, what could be wrong with this monster of a band doing great songs in the manner of the Stooges? It's a win-win as I see it. I'm just happy that they are playing and I can't wait to see them. It's gonna be incredible. P.S. - Wouldn't it be strange if they did Dum Dum Boys? - G, F#, E wrote:

That's a pretty bold assumption on your part. Do you really believe that these guys (who are both, seemingly, pretty well set financially) are puppets and Iggy is their master? Why would James, in particular, agree to a situation in which he was uncomfortable when he wasn't even going to do this originally? I don't see how that holds any water.

Ok I'll trust you on that. You knew Ron so I can't argue. But Ron held out for years and even then they were still Stooges songs even if they are technically "Iggy & The Stooges" songs. But getting that much into detail is silly. - larry fine wrote:

Yes I know I said that and to be honest in my personal opinion I'd rather they didn't play those ones but I can understand it as a tribute and as they are Stooges songs. Scott didn't care what they played from the start of the reunion and I imagine James doesn't either. They'll just want to play gigs again. So when Iggy said "Why don't we play The Passenger" they just agreed. None of them could care what I think they're getting paid and Iggy's playing the stuff he wants to. It just annoys me.

Where is this knowledge coming from? How do you know what Scott wanted or didn't want to play? Is there a quote somewhere that I missed? There may well be, but I'd like to see it. How do you "imagine" what James wants or doesn't want? Where does the idea that James just wants to play gigs again come from? He has stated that the opposite was true and that he didn't originally intend to do this at all. How do you know that it was Iggy who said "Why don't we play The Passenger" and not Scoot or James or Steve or Mike? I realize that you are passionate about this and that these are your opinions and that you hold them dear - as you should. But you are making a whole lot of assumptions and projecting your thoughts to a whole lot of other people (Stooges) to make your point and I can't see the validity in that.

| There's several recordings of Scott not being bothered if they play Raw Power songs. And Iggy asked Ron to play them for quite a while. I am making assumptions about how they came to playing the solo songs but I can't imagine James or Scott asking to play those songs. And James seemed to join The Stooges not long after Ron's passing at all which I think shows that he obviously (and understandably) wants to start playing gigs. Iggy has a long history of being selfish to his bandmates, in my opinon I see this as just another occurence of this. | |

| I don't know if I'd believe Niagara. Her & Ron had a love hate thing for years. When I saw Dark Carnival, she kept deliberately changing the settings on Ron's amp while he was playing & hid his glasses when he set them down, then stepped on his footpedals all while making faces & sticking her tongue out behind his back. | Absolutely! I doubt he would do anything he didn't want to do. I hope they continue to mix it up and play more Raw Power era stuff along with some 70's Iggy solo stuff. As long as I never have to hear Homeboy again. | |
