| I would feel the same. They're Iggy And The Stooges not Iggy Pop. | |

| so basically yr stating that a not so conventional band should become more conventional?
the stooges are by and far the most original/talented group of guys iggy has ever worked with. IGGY himself has always been at his best when working with these guys. if they are going to do a few cover songs, it might as well be with them. shit, thank gon iggy isnt touring w/ half the bozos hes toured with in the past. i dont think theres anything to worry about. it was a rock show featuring a rock band playing some badass rock tunes. really, i dont understand why them covering a few solo iggy songs is a big deal.

| Well, we will have to agree to disagree then. I'm a musician too, and you don't know the rush that comes from the crowd responding to a tune & signing along. One time I saw Iggy in 93 or so, at the Continental show, front row. The most exciting thing the whole night was when they cut the power after the fire marshalls were there & Iggy directed the entire club in a sing along of Lust For Life. He loved it! | |

| Because Iggy IS a Stooge. It's not Iggy then his backing band The Stooges. But he's getting these people who should be his bandmates doing the same thing he got all those "bozos hes toured with in the past" to do. And if you look on The Stooges as a backing band then it makes no difference but if you see The Stooges as a band then it's very frustrating. | |

| ron always said "raw power was iggy's first solo album". RON said that.
and its way different...that played STOOGES songs...just happened to throw in a few solo iggy ones too. they certainly played as the stooges, NOT a backing band. a few songs in an entire set list is NOT that big of a deal.

| Ron said it as a jibe at Iggy. Iggy's turning The Stooges into a backing band I just wish James had put his foot down like Ron did. | |

| I don't know if you realize there was almost a Stooges reunion several years before they did it. Iggy was to headline Lollapalooza tour, but ticket sales were really bad, even teasing a Stooge reunion at the time didn't help & the tour was off. The reunion happened when it made sense as a business decision for Iggy, due to Sonic Youth promising X number of dollars. It could have happened many times before, but didn't. Just like the Dolls reunion made business sense, and the Raspberries. They didn't get back together "All for the love of rock & roll" it was a good opportunity, and they took it. James is a successful businessman & wants this to work, all sentiment aside, it's a business. Iggy has a large body of work, and he should have put his foot down and told Ron to play Raw Power stuff years before they did. | |

| ron put his foot down? is there any record of ron putting his foot down towards the idea of playing solo iggy songs?
and i think ron meant that statement very literally....considering what he felt hed been reduced to at the time.
i know ron was very fickle about playing those madonna songs. how come he didnt put his foot down? BECAUSE ITS ROCK N ROLL!

| I made this forum a STOOGES FORUM, where we can talk about the band! See the section JESUS LOVE THE STOOGES??? That is to talk about the STOOGES. See the Gimme Danger section??? That is a place to talk about their SOLO stuff! And that includes, ALL members of the Stooges solo stuff, or other bands.
The STOOGES are a BAND. Ron and Scott are not part of the backing band, THEY ARE IN THE FUCKING BAND! Just as Mike Watt, Dave Alexander, James Williamson and even Steve Mackay are!
Fun House is my favourite album of all time, and that doesnt have Iggys name on the front cover now does it? NO!
I dont care if you talk about Iggy, this is what the forum is for! Just dont you fucking dare say that Scott and Ron are Iggys backing back because that is a crock of shit! When Iggy used to play Stooges songs before the reunion, they sounded kind of crap and why was that?!?!? Because ron and Scott werent playing the intruments!

| Cool down, HL, we're discussing the IGGY & THE STOOGES show that happened tonight! And I agree, the 90s band sounded like crap on stooges stuff. There's only 5 people that knows why they played what they played & why. | |

You mean like when Ron put his foot down, and The Stooges were playing Madonna´s songs "Ray Of Light" and "Burning Up" at rock n roll hall of fame ??? Madonna songs...think about that ? I have no probleam with Iggy´s solo songs, those are least great songs....

First things first - Iggy's first three solo records (The Idiot, Lust For Life and New Values) are the only solo records that even come close to holding a candle to his work with the Stooges. If he was out there doing songs from some of the later solo albums (which, for the most part, sucked) I would be agreeing with you. He did two songs off of albums that were pretty important in his career arc. And if I'm not mistaken - James was on board for this. Second - and most importantly - where did you get the info that Ron got an increase in pay to play songs from Raw Power. That is patently absurd. I had several conversations with Ron before he died regarding playing those songs. They all came from the idea that the band had been playing the same songs for several years and that to mix things up AND to give the fans something they would want it would be a nice gesture to play something from that era. He was, absolutely, reticent but gave in when he had heard it from so many people that he realized that it would be a nice gesture. And people can say anything they want about Ron not ever wanting to do this but I saw Iggy come out and sing with The New Order on the roof of the building they lived in in Hollywood in the 1970s (they were doing a sort of a Beatles Let It Be) and the two songs they did were I Wanna Be Your Dog and Search And Destroy. Ron was not overjoyed about doing these songs but did it for the fans. Not because he got an increase in pay. I kind of resent your making him out to be so mercenary. Ron did what he did for the fans who he cared about more deeply than most people in his position. I'm sorry for going on a rant about this but it needed to be said.

| Well, to be technical it was supposed to be Iggy going solo after The Stooges. They just couldn't find a better rhythm section. So it became "...and The Stooges."
And to be technical, Iggy did write some songs on his own during that time. But they sound the way they do because of The Stooges input. Just as I'm sure these "non-Stooges" songs do.
So... just pretend that Iggy went off and wrote some songs while the other Stooges were away, then brought them in to the band to work them over.
