I noticed that they are actually there, both on my original '73 US pressing and the Legacy remaster. You can hear them if you listen on headphones. They are so faint as to be almost subliminal, but they are there.

Their Ron's, really evident on the rough mixes. Especially "Penetration" and "Raw Power", but like everything Ron recorded for the album, they had to be turned down so far on the mix that that it made it almost impossible to hear them.

I think it´s Iggy with Ron on Raw Power ( I hear two voices goin "oooh" on the documentary film)..so it´s not only Ron, (Iggy says "that's all me by the way" about the backin vocals) but I think it´s good that the backin vocals are really low on the mix, not really good idea up front...

Look on the back of your copy of "Raw Power"
Ron Asheton - bass and vocals
I'm sure Ig did record SOME of the backing vocals and its not like Iggy took credit for what Ron's done before. Hell Mr Pop wrote all of "Fun House" remember?

It is the version that I have just discovered today in my "Head On" compilation (Snapper Music / Recall 1997). It is from a Detroit radio broadcast. I don't know the year... Maybe if it is a radio airplay from the early seventies, maybe this "Raw Power" version is an advance / promo copy that was given to DJ's and radios ? And if it's an advance copy, maybe it's a raw / rough mix before the work of Bowie ?

In an interview with Ron around the time of Iggy's re-mix, he expressed annoyance that his 'baby boy' (direct quote) vocals had been minimized on 'Penetration'. So at least some of the backing vox on that track are Ron's.

I finally got to watch the doco on disc 4 of the RP Deluxe Edition last night & got thinking during the part with the Raw Power backing vox. Now I'm sure this has been brought up before in one of the many threads (lotsa pages on the Raw Power reissue & not enough time here at work to dig through them) so apologies in advance if this has in fact been answered, but if they've recovered these backing vocals from the tapes, why can't they do anything with the bass & drums on the album?

Very good question and everybody here will have different ideas because throughout the years we got told they were "badly recorded" and watching the documentary this obviously isn't true. My vote goes for a certain someone's ego.

So I'm not totally out of my mind then. Just a little maybe... I'm listening to Georgia Peaches at the moment (had to wait for my birthday to open up the RP box) & Ron's bass playing is the absolute balls. Man, to hear Raw Power with the rhythm section front & centre with Iggy & James... Yep it's been said over & over but it bears repeating. Raw Power can be improved & that thought alone boggles my mind.
