quick report of the LYON gig 02 MAY 2022
concert time is 20h30 and I show up at 20h20 (numbered seats only) and see a guy and a woman hangin out behind the ticket desk, I ask 'em if there's a support band and the guy informs me that there's some film being shown, then Sarah Lipstate plays something on her own before Iggy shows up...OK cool, this guy is ressourceful (turns out he is the French guitar player in the band
I catch 10 mn of the film, it's called Stooge, is about a Stooges fan following the band everywhere...not sure how much actual Stooges footage there is in this project...I didn't see any, but I did arrive late.
21h00, band shows up, Sarah L. plays instrumental for 5' (with footage of the San Francisco 1981 film) and then Iggy shows up and the band launches into a romping rendition of 5 foot 1 and into 3 Free songs starting with Love's missing (following 2 must have been Dawn and Sanchez, not sure about the titles, Setlist.fm is incomplete)
7 piece band, 2 horns, 2 guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, the horns work well, bass is fat and the drummer Thibault is doing a great job imo, lots of energy on a small kit
Iggy looks in fine form (75 ? no way!), happy, great singing, his hair looks like mine when I was 12.... audience looked bored before the gig but now they are really into it and engaged, several non French speaking, have traveled for the 1st date of the tour.
songs played not in order :
I wanna be your dog (bouncy, with Seeds like solo)
TV Eye (excellent, with horns)
Death trip, Gimme danger, S+D
Nightclubbing, Mass prod
5foot1, Endless sea (finally caught that one live)
Lust for life, Passenger
Real wild child
Going to Norway (no idea where this one is coming from)
+ 3 Free tracks and the Free "speech" into Endless sea
2 encores, the second one could have been an actual spontaneous one with only S+D played.
90' gig , Iggy is still an amazing beast....after 45' everybody stood up and rushed to the front of the stage and Iggy was clearly happy about it . great night...
PAY YOUR RESPECT, GO SEE HIM ! HE IS STILL AMAZING !
