| Sun 02.10 04:00 PM ET VH1C The History of Rock 'N' Roll: (#009) Punk Def Leppard , The Clash , Metallica , Iggy Pop , The Sex Pistols , Talking Heads More... Show: The History of Rock 'N' Roll Episode: (#009) Punk Network: (VH1C) VH1 Classic Date: Sunday - February 10, 2008 Time: 4/3c PM Duration: 1:00 About: The History of Rock 'N' Roll: (#009) Punk Johnny Rotten and his band The Sex Pistols were the poster boys for punk, a new, aggressive, harsh form of rock 'n' roll. The scene grew quickly, from New York City where the Talking Heads and Blondie took irony and attitude to new levels of detachment, to London, where roving bands of unemployed youth gave their chosen musical icons an air of genuine menace. In these same years, the genre known as "heavy metal" also became a staple part of the international pop music scene, with bands like Van Halen, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, and Metallica. Songs featured include: The Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK," Iggy Pop's "Passenger," The Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane," and The Pretenders' "Message of Love." Yanks can get this, not sure about others. Cathy http://iggypop.org | |

| Sure it is! But Iggy has new fans everyday who may not have seen it. And old fans may want to see it again or record it if they didn't in the past. Like me! cb http://iggypop.org | |

| Doncha love these rock documentaries? Telling how it was by the ones who were there. I get starstruck watching these people. This video and "25 Years of Punk" are both great. They START with Iggy and the Stooges and go from there--which is the way the story should be told in my opinion. There's commentary from Bowie and Leggs McNeil about Iggy while they show that fabulous Manchester Passenger video. McNeil says there was no authentic madmen until Iggy came along. Bowie said the comparison to Morrison isn't accurate that Morrison was Euro and Iggy was totally Midwest. Then Iggy says "I hated the American dream." He's so good in this. Then they show him on Dinah Shore sticking his tongue out at the audience--LOVE that. Then they put up a real CLEAR video of Iggy standing on the crowd in Cincinnati. He said, "I knew there would be something in this for somebody who could create something of their own." He said Velvets couldn't sing and that gave him hope because he couldn't--Let's sing! haha
Talk about the American punk bands playing in the Bowery was funny and interesting but comentary from Elvis Costello and Billy Idol was boring and mostly about fashion and the hard times over there. Yeah, yeah.
The end comes to commentary about Cobain by Robert Plant and Pete Townsend who said punk music took off like a fire until the thing keeping the fire alive was bodies. Iggy said this music brought home that this was a very dangerous business for the practitioners. And his life was saved by the stuff that went before from his favorites Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, and Johnny Cash. They asked him at the end what the Stooge shows were like in the beginning and he said he wore an aluminum afro with a maternity dress and played a Hawaiian guitar and vacuum cleaner.
Thanks for the heads up on this one Cathy. | |

| Yeah I also would like to see/buy the full interview + performances. They play Sister Midnight in the same interview. And then you got these hilarious parts f.e. where iggy's telling about his teeth falling out. Dinah like: Because you eat to much candy? Iggy: nah cos I'm getting too violent on stage.... Bowie's falling of his chair with laughs. This interview is Iggy seems pretty sober, sharp as a knife and so 'aimable'. Dinah REALLY triggers his smart quality with her sweet edgy way of askin. Really good chemistry! |

| Here it is HSJW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr0EkGiwfS4 Everything is on Youtube now. The quality is REAL bad but just look thru that page and maybe there's a better one. I like when he said he helped wipe out the 60's. | |
