| Subject: Recordings from 68 - 74 Thu Sep 24, 2009 11:02 am | |
| The reasons we don't have any good recordings from this time are:
1. Simply the Stooges were miles ahead of their time and Elektra and Colombia weren't making a huge short term return out of them. So no big priority to record them like they did other artists.
2. When Ron was asked the question in the 1980's of why there weren't more organised recordings of the band he replied simply "we were too stoned".
So the latter reason which was one of their driving factors (for good or bad) was also the thing that left them in too much disarray to capture what they were doing. And the recordings that John Sinclair had from the early days are understood to have gone up in smoke in a house fire.
Still - what I'd give to have a time machine and capture say 5 shows from each year of 69 - 74 with decent condensors and a multi track!

| Got the other one I ordered today. So even in the UK they can take nearly a week to arrive.
I hope you guys and gals in the US, Europe and OZ get yours soon so we can have some proper discussions about the greatness of this.

| Nothing here yet either. However, as a consolation prize these jewels did arrive today (actually the Live In L.A. '73 arrived yesterday). Yes, that is the original Bowie mix 'Raw Power' CD that I got used on Amazon for $2.94. I got the 'California Bleeding' used for $3.73 and 'The Weirdness' used for, get this, 80 cents. All discs in like-new condition. Quite actually, all three discs looks like they have never even been played. All from the same Marketplace seller. Thanks to goHastings. Sorry for the grainy image, shot in low light with no flash. Anyway... It a Stooges day in the neighborhood, An Iggy & the Stooges day in the neighborhood, Would you be my, could you be my Osterberg | |

I don't think that the Royal Mail carrier pigeons make very good time..... King Arthur: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.King Arthur: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?King Arthur: Please!1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Am I right?

| Pardon me for carrying this even further off topic, but would those be European or African swallows? | |

Bridgekeeper: What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow? Bridgekeeper: Huh? I... I don't know that.
[he is thrown over] Bridgekeeper: Auuuuuuuugh.Sir Bedevere: How do know so much about swallows? King Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know. Funny stuff. IFC or Sundance Channel one are doing a Monty Python tribute this weekend I believe. On a musical note, I am currently listening to Raw Power - Bowie mix and Iggy remix track by track. Two very different sounds. I am glad you folks hipped me to this important fact. They should remaster the Bowie-mix just to bring the overall levels up a bit, but not touch the mix.

| Jimmy Recca was a great bassist!
On "What you gonna do?" (Wampler's Lake,) only credited to Ron, Scott and Jimmy, who is singing?

| Supposedly the person singing was someone in the audience who just got up and had all of the Ig's moves and vocal mannerisms down pat. | |
