When disc one of the TOC set was first released on the Heavy Liquid box set many years ago I didn't pay it much mind. I dismissed it as lo-fi filler. There was more interesting, higher fidelity stuff like an unreleased Morgan Theatre rehearsal. End of story.
But with this release I decided to revisit it with an open mind. And I was rewarded in kind. This is an incredible performance , one of the band's best. The great thing about these Whisky recordings is that they have a very egalitarian mix. Unlike the Raw Power album, which I love, but where Ron was buried in the mix , every member is as prominent as everybody else and has a chance to shine. And Ron is one damn fine bass player. This is a BAND.

That's for sure! Unique piece of history! I'm listen this concerts day by day... I have a very big music library, but this place is very unique and special for my heart & mind! I'm already created a rip of all Stooges shows, released by Easy Action and full Iguana Chronicles serie from BOMP! and put it to my player in permament!

So this is from the same shows as this right? But with obviously a fuller track listing and sonic improvements.

OK now I’m intrigued. Is this just a vinyl best of culled from the “Theatre…” release, or is it something else?
Most importantly, if it’s some of the same material as the “Theatre…” CDs does it have the same sonic improvements?

EA billing the Sept.16/73 Stooges Whisky show as an "unreleased concert" is a bit misleading though I suppose technically accurate. That is if you consider the Revenge Records Stooges releases as bootlegs. After all stuff that comes out on bootleg is not considered "released". But were they boots? There is little doubt that Ron Asheton was involved with the Revenge label and supplied tapes, including the Whisky tape as well as the 1973 studio rehearsal tapes. Along with Ron I believe Scott was also thanked in the liner notes so he likely signed off on it as well. Is 50% of a band's lineup participating enough to make a release legitimate? I don't know but it at least gives a credible veneer of legitimacy.
Likewise with Bomp, James Williamson sold them Stooges tapes in the late 1970's that he presumably had legal authority over but whose actual ownership is murky. They became the basis of Bomp's Stooges series the Iguana Chronicles and their claim to legitimacy . Iggy seemed to regard both the Revenge and Bomp releases as bootlegs. It wasn't until the Rhino and Easy Action Stooge releases later on that a fully legitimate product could be indisputably established and accepted.
