| What do you think of The Stooges playing "The Passenger", "Lust For Life" and "Five Foot One" as an encore?
Personally I don't like it at all, I feel Iggy's reduced The Stooges to a backing band.

| I voted it's great, and 5'1" is from New Values, which James played on, pallie. Why shouldn't they play tunes like those 2? | |

| That's because he produced it. He also wrote "Don't Look Down". And please don't call me pallie, its Rory by the way. Nice to met you. | |

| Well, Rory, I recommend you boycott the shows when Iggy comes to your neck of the woods if it bothers you that much. I happen to really like the Bowie LPS and a lot of the stuff afterwards. It was cool to see the stooges but what bothered me was the insistence to ignore a wealth of great material like Sweet 16 in favor of playing Dog twice at every show. | |

| So you're saying The Stooges are Iggy's backing band essentially? I love some of Iggy's solo stuff don't get me wrong but this band is billed as "Iggy & The Stooges" surely by playing Iggy solo material that makes no sense. If you loved solo Iggy stuff to this point you'd surely know it was called just "Sixteen" not "Sweet Sixteen" wouldn't you? And "I Wanna Be Your Dog" is the greatest thing Iggy and the Ashetons ever did so hearing it twice is no chore for me. | |

| I always call it sweet 16, maybe when you're a bit older you won't be so uptight bro. Seen Iggy many many times, and I'm ready to see James play with him. My choice would be only tunes from the 3 best LPS of Iggy's career, Raw Power, Kill City & Metallic KO, but I'm not going to cry when he plays Skull Ring, which I don't care for. Why is that tune OK? And I hate to tell ya, lots more people that aren't exclusivists are going to know Iggy's 2 best known hits from his later days. To say nothing of the fact Lust For Life is a great singalong. And hate to tell ya, the Stooges WERE always Iggy's backing band. When Preliminaires sold more copies in 1 week then Weirdness sold in total without Iggy's name on it, that's saying something. As to Dog, I'd rather have heard some other stooges tune. I love the song but no need to play it twice when again, a gigantic body of work was ignored. | |

| Oh sniff sniff, I've been told! LOL! Dude, I've seen Iggy about 50 times since 1979. In what way were they not a backing band? Because they wrote songs together & got high together? Every band has a frontman & a backing band. The Doors were Jim Morrison's backing band. | |

| Back in the day, The Stooges used to play Dog twice, Once they played it like the record in the beginning of the set. Then at the end of the set, Steve would join them and play also. It was called "Double Dog". For them tp play it twice was a repeat of the old days.
Just setting the record straight.

| No The Stooges were a band not a backing band, big difference. The Sales brothers and Pul Gardiner were a backing band, because it was Iggy's solo carreer. You obviously are just more of an Iggy fan than a Stooges fan. There isn't anything wrong with that but the two shouldn't be confused. And The Doors were a band and Jim Morrison was a rambling idiot who thought he was a poet and eventually looked like a gnome. | |

| Haha now we're getting all technical. But even if Iggy & The Stooges are yur favourite band i.e. 1972 - 1974 then putting in solo songs still wouldn't make much sense. The Stooges songs were there as tribute to Ron I believe. And even when they were called "Iggy & The Stooges" (mainly because the name "Iggy" attracts more people) they were never a backing band. In gigs Iggy wuld always reffer to himself and the others as "The Stooges" anyway. | |

| i think the songs fit james naturally playing style more than the material on the first two stooges records, and i can only imagine playing "i wanna be yr dog" and "tv eye" as possibly feeling a bit weird for them at the moment considering ron's death. i know material from the first two records has been rehearsed, and i think it will without a doubt be played...but i can see it being emotionally taxing to play too much of that at the moment. it must be considered theres only one "real" album featuring james on gtr....they need some "filler". i suspect they are going to rework some of those early james songs that only recorded live.
i dont have an issue with it. none at all.
i know they are going to kick ass this go around, just like they did with ron....but in a different way. its somewhat of a different band now guys, sorry. thats just the way i see it.
if they wanna play lust for life and the passenger, more power to 'em. least they got james on guitar as opposed to steve jones or some shit. its still the stooges.
and they are by no means a backing band....they just happen to be "iggy and the stooges" playing a few "iggy pop" songs. i mean, the line-up w/ ron played some songs off of skull ring, right? that was ultimately an IGGY album w/ former stooges serving up as a back up band....
same exact difference in my mind.

| I hope they play whatever makes them happy, and I hope they grow as a band without restriction on the tunes played. Remember, when I was your age, Rory, the new Iggy LPS were the Bowie ones & the first tour I saw him on was New Values, so I love that era. If I had my choice to pick the set, it would be focused on 3 records that I used to play every day after school, Raw Power, Metallic KO and Kill City. In the original stooges reunion I used to want to see the tunes left off those LPs, like We Will Fall, and Ann. | |

| "Ann" would have been great. And the set does focus on those 3 records so why put on 3 Iggy solo songs? I don't understand this. Even them playing ROn tunes seems odd but I can understand this as a tribute. | |

| but...they arent a tribute band! im sure there will be PLENTY of tributes made to ron. james putting down his les paul and picking up the strat for those ron songs is a MAJOR tribute. any guitar player knows this just as any guitar player certainly has a preference when it comes to his instrument of choice.
they played a few solo iggy songs. i dont see how its a big deal. AGAIN, the stooges w/ ron played a few solo iggy songs. of course, they were songs the ron and scotty helped ig write, but they helped him write them as a BACKING BAND.
realy, a few iggy songs...i dont see the big deal. and at least they didnt cover tunes from blah blah blah or brick by brick or that god-forsaken skull ring. they covered GOOD iggy stuff.

| It's good business. As I said, I hope they continue to grow the setlist. The Dolls mix it up every tour, and play different tunes every go round. Keeps it interesting. And they did do Skull Ring;) | |

| But they did write those Skull Ring songs. None of the Stooges except Iggy worked on those 3. | |

| so?
none of the pistols wrote "no fun". joey ramone didnt write 1969 (which he covered). bands cover tunes sometimes....there is only so much james material to pull from.
the set consisted mostly of stooges songs...great. and im not sure of all the details, but maybe they had good reason to play those songs. maybe they were a gift to the iggy pop fans...really...i mean, they could have covered far worse stuff, i promise ya. again, BANDS COVER SONGS..ESP ROCK BANDS!

| James worked on 5'1". Even if only as a producer, as you say, you have no idea how many hours he spent working on that tune. Just be glad he didn't do real wild child, or Pumpin For Jill! | |
