| Yes they do but they tend not to cover ones there band mates did as solo acts. And yes he was the producer but you wouldn't give John Cale credit for helping write "Real Cool Time". | |

| AWESOME first post! (i agree) but, even with that said i DO want to say im enjoying this debate with G, F#, E. he seems like a cool guy even if we have different view points. always nice to be able to debate with someone without it getting rude/vulgar etc. one reason why i love this place. (even though rudeness can be fun too from time to time | |

And by James and Iggy's own words, Iggy wrote "I Got A Right" completely by himself, should they not play that either? I don't have any problems with three solo songs. Hell they should do "Hey Mona" from the Iguanas. Being uber fans, it's hard for us to realize that probably 70% or more of the people that see the Stooges don't really know the back story or even care and just want to hear Dog, Search and Destroy and Lust For Life.

| But are the band deciding to play it or has Iggy made them do it? it wasn't even just one song it was 3, a pretty big chunk out of a 14 song set for covers. And Iggy played and recorded "I Got A Right" in The Stooges. It's a Stooges song. Just like when Paul McCartney wrote a song in The Beatles. It was a Beatles song, not a Paul McCartney solo song or Wings debut. | |

| I have only seen Iggy solo once so for whatever set list I get to see on the 2010 tour I will be happy. Hell, to hear "I Got A Right" live is worth the price of admission alone. The rest is just icing. | |

| Iggy didn't make em do it for the last couple of years.. if u don't like the three songs at the show then just take that time to : a)go to the bathroom B)get a beer C)buy a shirt..
then u will have a great show experience and not have to hear the offending songs.

| Without being there, it's hard to say John Cale's input, other than his violin playing. There's no Stooges box set where we can hear songs progress, but producers do often help with arrangements & helping to keep the focus on the tightness & intensity of a shorter performance. Well said, Joe! I've suffered thru many bad tunes to get to hear just one. I finally saw him play Death Trip around the late 90s, and gotta say, it sucked. So to get to hear it with James once is my icing. But I'm eating the whole damn cake & asking for seconds:) And when you split from the front, I'll be right there to grab yer spot, Haha! | |

id didnt wanna say this, but it IS a fact. ron didnt have SHIT going for him financially before the stooges reunited..as BADASS as he was. james, on the other hand doesnt HAVE to do anything he doesnt want to do. the dudes rich as fuck as is. of course, the stooges can make him much richer, but if he was kicked out or decided to back out it wouldnt really hurt him at all. hes doing it because he wants to. hes doing it because hes the only person that can. in james words "if i didnt rejoin the band theyed been known as IGGY AND THE STOOGE" < "stooge", SINGULAR word. i highly doubt iggy is making them do anything. its their first show, there isnt a ton of james material to pull from. playing a few solo iggy songs for the fans makes perfect sense.

According to the liner notes, he did. While I prefer not, I have no problem with them playing Iggy solo tunes as long as it's kept to a minimum. I think "Five Foot One" was a fine choice. I could do without "The Passenger" and "Lust For Life". Great songs but I've heard them both too much. If they wanted to stick with New Values, I'd like to hear "New Values" and "I'm Bored". I suppose "Dum Dum Boys" would have been an appropriate solo song to do. Likewise, the song "Kill City" is fine and I'd love to hear "I Got Nothing" but I can do without much else from the full album. But truthfully, what I'd like to hear is a few songs from each of the first two albums, with the bulk of the set coming from Raw Power and concise versions from the 1971-74 era Stooges. Maybe one or two coming from Kill City, Skull Ring and The Weirdness. I guess you could toss in a solo song or two. While I don't have any real problem with Iggy solo songs (he is the one who's career is the most well known), it sort of gets into the realm of why doesn't Scott do some Sonic's Rendevezvous. How about Watt doing a Minutemen or fIREHOSE song? But, then again, who's to say today's Stooges can't be a conglomerate of each member's history? The REAL Stooges are now truely gone. Let's not complain about what we do have. To tell the truth, while the first two albums are my faves, I was getting a bit bored hearing the reformed Stooges playing the same songs for five-plus years. A few Iggy solo tunes or some covers would have been a nice departure.

| First I hated the idea of Iggy solo songs in The Stooges set list, but it doesn't bother me that much anymore. A lot of fans love those songs, so let them hear the best, as long as they're done Stooges-style, not Iggy-backing band -style. I listened to the Planeta Terra -clips, and I have to admit it would've been great being there, hearing those songs played by Iggy&The Stooges. | |

That's the truth. To suggest, as in an earlier post, that the original Stooges were just Iggy's backing band would be a stupid comment for someone with only a casual knowledge of the band to make, let alone a Stooges "fan." What does that make Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Jon Bonham etc? (insert your own choice of names.) Band members or backing musicians? How about a new site: "The Trolls Forum" - any interest?

| The Stooges were never a backing band to Iggy. As a bit of a purist, I prefer the band wasn't doing Iggy solo material. It takes some of the wind out of the sails. On the other hand, if they have fun playing them, it's fine by me. Who the heck am I to pass judgement.
I do take issue with mindless's attempts to portray himself as the ultimate Iggy fan by putting down other fans. Sounds like he might need a diaper change!

| Hmmm according to the dictionary meaning, a ' stooge' is also ' one who allows oneself to be used for another's profit or advantage or a puppet' which would make sense for those who say Iggy made over years Ron, Scott, Dave, James, Steve and Mike as members of his backing band LOL Obviously, it's Scott, James, Mike and Steve who agreed to play Passenger or Lust For Life. When I saw the link on yt at first, I also thought WTF?!?..but..as one proverb says do not worry about what you can not control..I think we should be really happy that Stooges are back again and still wanna play..cuz at their age..some musicians are rather retired or..dead..If they have nothing against playing these three Ig's solo songs, it's okay with me as well.. VIVA IGGY & THE STOOGES! | |

| Excuse me? Yeah, I portray myself as the ultimate Iggy fan how? I know there are people that have seen & love Iggy more them me, I was just relating a couple things I saw. Some of you people are getting a bit too crazy over this issue. Iggy's one of hundreds of artists I like. The Raw Power era Stooges meant a lot to me growing up. But so did the Idiot, Lust For Life & New Values.

| And who exactly did I put down? We were having a discussion. I reviewed the thread and don't see where I put anyone down, except maybe the Asheton brothers by saying they were a backing band. At the time they did the first 2 LPs yes they were a band. But when they were hired by Iggy to play Stooges songs again, they were a backing band. I met them back in Ann Arbor years ago, Scott was living in his Mom's basement, and Ron jammed with my friend's band. Neither had anything really going on until they were reunited with Iggy. Ron was a really strange cat. He was even shy, and wouldn't even let people watch him play with that band. | |
