| I just saw on Amazon that a CD version of Raw Power came out on Sony Japan in July of 2007. Like many Japanese pressings of CDs that are coming out these days, this one seems to be a replica of the original release (mini replica of the vinyl sleeve, etc.).
Does anybody know what mix this CD is using?

| That would be super-cool if it's the Bowie mix, because Japanese pressings are usually much higher sound quality than others. It would probably put the old CD to shame. | |

No question about that. If it turns out to be a high quality version of the Bowie mix I'll be getting one too.

No question about that. If it turns out to be a high quality version of the Bowie mix I'll be getting one too. It´s the remixed version. I already bought it. Nice issue anyway.

| Iggy-fan, thanks for answering my question. So I have another one: did they do a good job of replicating the original packaging on the Japanese CD? | |

Yes, I think so. Even the Obi is on the same place as the original. There´s also a mini replica on the cover for the Japanese "Raw Power" Single.

| We can even do it more complicated with the mixes. The mix is different between the original US and UK pressed vinyl. | |

| Ok, while we're at it, I've got another quandary for all you folks out there:
I've never heard the CD of the Bowie mix for Raw Power. All I've got is the Iggy mix CD and a reissue of the Bowie vinyl. I've read some things where people say that the Bowie mix CD sounded crappy compared to the original vinyl.
I'm not sure how long ago the vinyl reissue I've got was made. I bought it a few years ago in a record store and it was new with the shrink wrap still on it. It wasn't that expensive and it looks like it wasn't put out by some reissue label. In other words, it seems to be a Columbia vinyl reissue. It's definitely the Bowie mix - besides sounding totally different from the Iggy mix it's got Bowie's name in the credits on the back.
Anyway, my question (finally) is this: is the mix used on this vinyl reissue better sounding than the Bowie mix CD? Would I be better off burning this LP onto a CD rather than tracking down a copy of the Bowie mix CD? Am I thinking too much about this whole thing?
Hey, I'm off work today, so what the hell else am I gonna think about?
Thanks for your help, everyone.

| Yeah, I'll probably still try to track down a CD of it. Like I said, I'd just read that it didn't sound that good compared to the old record. But everybody hears things differently...
I just listened to the reissue LP and the lead guitar almost melted my skull every time it came in!!!

| On a related note, years ago at a record convention I bought a funky vinyl version of "Raw Power" that was basically just the album run through a reverb box - I remember thinking this was just the cheesiest thing I'd ever seen - anyone else have this? It may have even been a 10" on colored vinyl!

| I cannot hear what everyone perfers in the bowie mix. It is thin, washed out and lacks punch. The Iggy mix is brutal and distorted, but way better balanced and clearer (even being as distorted as it is). | |

| Was there an update anywhere on the orig US vinyl vs original UK vinyl?
Is the Bowie mix on CD really sucky compared to the vinyl?
How about a fantasy alternative Raw Power - studio, live tracks and demos all eligable? Let's kick off with the I'm Sick Of You take of Tight Pants!

It's not a question of mix, but mastering. I can get the Bowie mix, and I can make it sound way harder than Iggy's one, with a compressor and a limiter and some clever eq. I do like Iggy experiment thought.

| Can you seventeen, i dont mean just yourself, but can you release it, you said you pushed that jungle guy to release Metallic KO in better condition and the original and well done its fantastic, i love it, i can see why it had such an impact, but there should be some kinda raw power 2cd remaster like the rhino stooges and funhouse remasters, altho i dunno how they would release it, actually leave the iggy mix as the new staple, and have a 'limited' edition bowie mix and some like rough power takes you no, that would be great, cos on the iggy mix CD its just, i dunno as far as aesthetics go its not a great layout and just looks bad, but the rhino reissues are splendid with photos ive never ever seen before, or since, nice touch and stories from alice cooper, jack white and paul trynka i think on the sleeve, theyre great packages you'no, somethin to think about? lol | |

| i managed to get a copy of the raw power bowie mix on cd from ebay for fairly cheap. i believe i paid about $10 usd for it.
between the bowie + iggy mix, i still prefer iggy's work. while some may hate it, i guess i just like it because i love my music as loud as possible.
