I think the first album works all the better for any seeming imperfections...it has this positively sludgy quality at times, which just sucks me in all the more. Like on 'Not Right' for instance, with its muddy, murky, grinding, squalling shuddering 'solo'...the very ESSENCE of sound....Even Funhouse, dare I say it, sounds almost too clean in comparison. But, just to make it quite clear, I'm saying absolutely NOTHING against Funhouse. It's inferior ONLY to the first album, for me, and not by much.

Spot on.

Yup. But he did alright producing the 'final' version. there's absolutely no way it could have been bettered.

He didn't mix the final version. It was Iggy and someone else, I forget their name. Embarassed

I haven't a clue what you're on about.
Also who played the viola? That was Cale I suppose
I have a copy of the record which says 'produced by John Cale'.

And it WAS produced by Cale. But Iggy & Elektra guy Jac Holzman remixed it, the band wasn't happy with the original Cale mixes with that weak guitar sound.

End of controversy. Laughing Wink

cale did have a lot to do with it, producing it, but iggy and jac holzman remixed - i thought there was something, like people didnt believe iggy remixed it, or something like that?

Thanks Loose1969 you explained it far better Laughing

Cale was definetly the viola player it says so in the credits on the back.

And I was making fun of the fact of where you said:

Nadja wrote:

It came across as quite snipey but it probably wasn't ment that way.

Thanks Loose1969 you explained it far better than I tried to Laughing On another topic, I saw Jac Holzman interviewed in a documentary about the California music scene recently. The documentary was full of awful music but it was good to see Jac.

Cales first album mix is in the wrong pitch(or speed). Must be the tape play speed. It's easy to raise the pitch w/ eiditing though, so it's no big deal.

1. Funhouse
2. Stooges
3. Raw Power (Even tho S&D's my fav song!)
4. Penetration
5. Weirdness (it pains me to even list it, such a disappointment..)

Yeah Cale's mix is all Hand claps..bad! Tho the long version of Ann is way better. It doesnt have vocal reverb/echo thing like normal version.

don't understand why everyone's so surprised about RP at no. 1. and as for judging, we're all different aren't we? For me RP is such a different set-up to the first two albums that I can't help but react to it in another way entirely.
