| Now it's out of print on CD does anyone know where I can find the original Bowie mix of 'Raw Power' online?
I haven't heard the original version since sometime around 1992, but I've been playing the modern remix a lot lately and I wanna see if the Bowie mix is as bad as I recall it being....

| The Bowie mix is good. I prefer it to the Iggy mix, which is frankly too relentlessly LOUD for me. I like to hear music, not be bludgeoned to a pulp by it. If I want it loud, I simply turn up the volume. It would be cool if one day the Bowie mix was carefully remastered to sit alongside the 90s' Iggy mix. Cheers, Richard | |

I downloaded one the other day, specifically because it was a "1973 vinyl LP rip".....it turned out to be the modern Iggy remix.

Trust me on this. I already have the vinyl, I've had it since the early 1990's....but I haven't had a record player since about 1996!

| Bummer.
Well, you can still pick it up on vinyl. Columbia reissued it. It's out there and here on the net.

| OK...got the Bowie mix playing in my headphones as I type. Right off the bat, I'd say it sounds a bit distant, but more atmospheric. And not so distorted. I'll play both back to back tonite and see how they stack up against one another. Honestly though, the over-distortion on the remix bugs me. But we'll see after I give them both a fair listen. | |

Already-after just a couple of comparisons, I have to agree. The Bowie mix IS distant, but I like it. Much easier on the ears. I'd like to see a compromise between the two though. More ballsy but not overdriven. Then again, I'd also like to see me onstage playing alongside Ron. In other words, I'd better be happy with what I got.

| My final thoughts on this.... The instrumentation in general stands out quite a bit better on the remix, and the quieter passages (in "Gimme Danger", for example) sound better. But when the volume goes up it's just too fucking harsh. On the original Bowie mix, the sound is definitely distant and muted. But it's also much cleaner. More atmospheric for sure. My personal thoughts? Get the Bowie remix, run it through a good cd program and carefully re-EQ it to brighten it up a bit. But don't overdo it. Then crank the mother up to 11. | |
