StoogeFan , i think that was me. But after a discussion with jpstooges, I've only just realised they put the bright-sounding almost bass-less single version of S&D on the CD. I think they should have used the original 1973 LP version. The remaster is great but I kinda of feel that using the bass-less version was a mistake.

Maybe it's my ears, but the bass seems pretty full to me. I was listening on my 1978 Kenwood KA-7100 amp, straight into my headphones with the tone selector OFF. Or, maybe it's my stereo?

I agree - the bass is there but comes in later and not as strongly*. As I've said elsewhere the bass and drums quality really benefit from the mastering throughout this CD. I hadn't really noticed the S&D difference myself until I did a direct comparison with the old LP. In the end it doesn't really matter as the remaster is just very good.

* I called it bass-less version but bass-reduced might be better. Whatever, it seems to be the single version but not as brightly mastered.

why exactly would you be served? This was mentioned a few times previously and I still don't get it.

I received mine yesterday and unfortunately the way it was packaged allowed the nice outer box to be somewhat crushed. Normally, if I receive a CD through the mail and it arrives with the jewel case all cracked (as they often are when a CD is shipped through the mail in one of those bubble envelopes) I don't complain and just replace the jewel case from a huge box of jewel cases that I bought for hardly nothing. However, with a very nicely packaged box set that cost $60 I felt the need to inform the seller about the problem. So, I contacted the folks at "My Play Direct" about it and they responded quickly with an apology and a replacement box set that has already shipped. I just hope that either they packaged the replacement in a more secure fashion or that the USPS is a bit more gentle that they were last time. Anyway, I just wanted to give some props to the people at MPD for a quick, hassle-free replacement.

Got the legacy edition today and I feel bad that I was complaining about what it might sound like. I forget who posted it but I remember someone on here saying that the Bowie mix made more sense to them after hearing the re-master and I definitely agree

Actually, it was me who said the mix "made more sense". Also, I believe they did use the '73 LP mix of Search and Destroy. It's not as bright as the single. It does however have less bass than any of the other tracks and has been less "improved" than the others.

The UPS man just came and I got my official box set (I had the promo previously). I'm a happy consumer. I wish I could call my friend Michael though.

Teddy,

Me too! I wish he were here to give his very unique take on all of this. I can still hear his voice with all that excitement. He'd have been very happy about the RARHOF, after moaning a bit at it taking so long, of course.

I miss him very much.

Your right. I said that Penetration finally made sense to me with the remastered sound – but I've always preferred the Bowie mix, it just sounds even better now.

Have you tried a direct comparison of the two tracks? On my LP the bass is full and prominent on that song.

good find. krys..

even more confusion. This mix is clearly somehow bowie mix as the the drums have that
stereo delay.

it has the effect sounds louder too.. "baby baby" background singing is much clearer.

"Same clothes every night...don't you have anymore clothes?"

"Georgia Peaches" kicks ass. There is a bit of crowd chatter from in the audience, but most of it is pretty funny and adds to the overall ambiance. Does anyone know just exactly how this was recorded? Anyway, definitely one of the best live Stooges recordings ever dug up. Can you imagine if all of their stuff had been recorded at least this well or even better?

It was recorded at a mobile sound van right outside Richards. That's the legend, anyway.
